Any car sold in the us after 2004 has to be updateable, at that point pretty much all cars became flashable. It's just that no one has cracked it. Mitsubishi will also want the option of updates, there's no way they would lock themselves out these days.
but yes the 380 ecu I'd complex right now, in 10-15 years time it will seem really simple and easy to adapt etc compared to whatever we're using by then.
