The Aircon choices are either a pic of a snowflake or a pic of a snowflake with the letters eco next to it.

Now I thought that the eco one was shortened for economy and therefore a less powerful setting but I find that using the eco works better (cooler).

Has anyone else found this? Or can explain?

I think the flake has the aircon on full time and just adjusts the fan speed. The eco setting will continually have the the aircon cutting in & out as well as adjusting fan speed. Not fully sure tho what it does when the temp needs to be maintained above the outside temp while snow flake is on.:)

Like what Josh said.
Basically, ECO stands for Economy mode. It's meant to save petrol because the compressor isn't working as hard.
In full A/C mode, the compressor works full time. It cools and de-humidifies the air. But in ECO mode, it won't run the compressor as hard as if it was in the full A/C mode.

ECO mode still blows icy cold air out, but A/C cools and de-humidifies.

It is recommended that on a hot and humid day, to run full A/C mode for 10 minutes to de-humidify and cool the cabin, then switch to ECO mode after to maintain cool temperature without over-working the compressor.

A side track to this thread... sorry Matt
I find the Eco works the same as the A/C but as said above, the compressor doesnt run full time.
But how well does the A/C actually work in these cars as a rule? I find that mine tends to struggle on hot days (not just a 44+ day like today) but over about 35-38. Do the airconds work feezing cold like the toyota's do or does everybody's air tend to struggle? My old 91 camry used to almost give me frost bite on my fingers if I blew the vents towards the steeringwheel. I know they are supposed to be de-commissioned/re-commissioned during compliance but are they any good from every ones experience, perhaps i have a leak somewhere. Id just like an opinion before I pay someone to pressure test the system.

My legnum air con is comparable, if not slightly better than in my '06 SP23. The legnum is white though, and I think this may be your biggest prob Damian - black cars just dont work to well under the australian sun! Especially when you think about the huge roofspace the legnum has to collect all those wonderful hot UV rays, heating the air inside.

have to disagree with you there

my 04 vy commo black standard tints it was know as "artic breeze" as my friends would call it !!! it was so cold that in the hottest days of summer you would have to turn the coolness down it was not climate like our legnums !! (also a friend had the same car in silver the air con was shimick in that . also found out a week before i sold it the compresser was fudged leaking a/c gas through the frount seal of the compresser housing) i used R134a injected with green dye if anyone gets there system regassed either give me a call (brisbane only) or get it gassed with he green dye as wen it leaks you can run a uv light over all the pipe/ fittings to see if you indeed have a leak

also toyota's have shimick a/c systems now theres artic breeze (they also use denso)

I find my Legnum's aircon is ice cold. I've never used the full aircon setting in 6 months, even on 40+ days, simply don't need to. I find that if I have it set to the lowest temp my feet become ice bricks really quick, same with my fingers. Only wish it had air conditioned seats (invented yet?). Don't need heated seats but having a cool bum would be nice lol.

Hmmm I think I might get it pressure tested, It definatley wont give me ice bricks on my feet. My car is black but my old camry was a very dark blue and the a/c worked choice in that car, infact it was the best bit of the car LOL.

You may find cars with Japanese gas have cooler aircon systems because the refrigerant is better. Unfortunately in Australia we adhere to some of the strictest laws in the world when it comes to hazardous material, so the refrigerant we use is relatively inefficient but less environmentally damaging. My aircon was noticeably better before it got regassed.

Mine seems to work pretty well in this stupid retarded heat. Works better than my dad's Magna.
