Mike, you can indeed get an aftermarket alarm system slaved off your factory central locking system - I have one installed myself. Just phone your friendly neighbourhood car security company and ask them - I'm sure they'll have a solution to suit.

You can also buy a new key and register up to two keys at a time with your car (I got a new one from Mitsi Japan which is working happily). I've got details posted in a thread somewhere, but don't have time to find it tonight. If you can't find it let me know and I'll look it up tomorrow.

In kyrgyzstan we have a ton of alarms and I looked into that feature but there is a JVC alarm that comes with 4 buttons and a few features and you can get the jvc key that comes with the alarm to be cut into to your car key.
This did not have auto remote start and a pager and a built in turbo timer so I went for the Pantera with all of these features and everything under the sun.
Check on ebay I think you will find some good stuff at great prices.

Your in luck, we have a VR4 car audio and alarm expert in queensland which a few of us have used and I would suggest you give him a call as he will be able to answer your questions.

Mike you don't program the key, you program the CAR to accept the key. And you can do it yourself and save yourself $120. AFAIK I'm the only person I know of on here or CVR4 who has done this, which is surprising 'cause once I'd figured it out its pretty straightforward.

any recommendations for SA fitters? Tonkins are crap, and I've had Tisonics in previous cars, so has two of my mates, and we all had problems.

Mobiletek seem like they are professional, but that's merely an assumption!!

yep removed SEVERAL!

POS they really are. FK the feedback thing. its cheap crap and really NOT worth using. hell once I yanked the module out and you could start the car. hardly what I call a car alarm.

to be honest I wouldnt fit one of these to ANY car. a golf cart - maybe.

see bold point. I may be corrected here but when I need bits for EVO lancers I go to mitsi in nundah give them the chassis number (IE CT9A-000000) and tell them what I want. they tell me a price and if its local get it for me if not I pay for it and wait 14 days for it to come from japan.
in your case the chassis number will be EC5W-000000 .

just to clarify your car - we are doing remote immobiliser with timer - correct?
I'm waiting until it clears compliance before I touch it.

I think you will find that was an install issue. I have fitted 100's of those with out issue. only reason I quit selling them was they were being sold to people that had no rights to them.

Peter D has two wagons . one that I did and one someone else did. he had problems with the one I didn't do and blamed the alarm for all the issues.

nope. commodores and falcons are a different matter the ARROW system in those does self checking. if its a jap car then the correct answer is still no.

as for onsite guys. I clean up a lot of their messes. I can show you PLENTY of onsite immobiliser 'installs' most of them are for compliance as well. put simply I could have the ENTIRE unit in my hand and OUT in 20 sec or LESS.

Ive used HT Car Audio and Security for all my alarm installs, the guys name is Hong he is great and he used to work for mitsubishi as a mechanic too.
He sells alarms and all types of audio gear too, and will come to you to install them.

At first i was execting a van to come to install the alarm but this WRX comes around the corner :ROFLMAO: what a great business car. Anyway me and all my mates have used him and we have nothing bad to say, his number is 0413 522 565 give him a call if you need anything installed
