the alternator on the legnum that i bought was dead so read the how to remove thread, removed it after a bit of a fight as the bolts were very tight and the car was not at my place so tools were a bit scarce.
got it out took it home to the work bench pulled it apart hoping to find short brushes,no such luch, tested the rotor and fields both appeared ok.
it had to be the regulator/brush holder/diode bank.
rang a friend who wrecks mitsubishi cars to find out if a v6 magna was the same, discribed the alternator and 4 pin plug to him,he said the lancers have the same plug on the regulator.
went for a drive as he lives 40 min away, checked out the lancer alternators to see if they could be bolted in,unfortunately not easily,1 of the alternators looked to have the same reg/diode bank so i bought that from him for $35.
got it home stripped it down the regulator was the same but the diode bank was slightly smaller, the 2 parts are soldered together by 2 flat plates,
unsoldered both regulators ,soldered the langer reg to the legum diode
bank,assembled.
decided to get auto elect i know to test on bench as i did not want to bolt it back in if it did not work, told him what i did and he agreed that it should work which it did on the bench.
bolted it back in to legnum ,much easier to bolt back in as i had correct tools , started the car and check light out, voltmeter confirmed 14.3v
great.
CE lancer regulator will work in out cars, cost $35 and a few hours.
i should have asked the auto elect the cost of a new regulator, next time i see him i will because it may be cheacer to buy new reg than complete alternator from wreckers.most failures will be the regulators
