Hi all,

Are the any differences at all in the Series 2 models between 1999 and 2002?
I am hunting for a 2001-2002 but they seem to be rather rare and I am just wondering whether I will be sacrificing anything by going to a slightly older model...

Cheers
Pete

May 2000 to August 2002 (minor update)
This update was across the board for all VR-4’s. The interior trim pattern changed to a softer grey fabric on the standard seats and the Recaro option, resembling Suede on the door cards and on the Recaro seats. The Momo steering wheel which had carried red sections on the side since its introduction became black all around. The Type V Galants and Legnums now came with the High Vis dash and their wheels changed to the polished style of stock wheels that were on the COTY VR-4’s. The Tan leather option was still available and still came with the wood centre console and steering wheel, while the cars with standard seats or Recaros now came with a Grey centre console. The pricing changed slightly, the Type V’s went up 30,000 Yen, while the Type S models stayed at the same price.

I'll be looking for the latter version when I get around to getting one.

I bought a 99 not realising the later ones were so much sexier. Make sure you check em out before you make a decision or you'll end up like me scratching ur head on how to make the interior feel more modern.

Awaiting my 2001, I wasn't aware of the grey interior but from the pics it looks substantially better.

This is the interior in my 2000 model

This is what I want...

Mine is a 2000 Manual Type-V model with the Recaro Interior and High-Vis Dash cluster :) Love it..

When I bought mine, I didn't realise they came in different types of interiors so I guess I was lucky..

I also didn't import it, it had landed a couple of weeks earlier, just nice timing that I saw it on CarSales when I did! Took a look at it at the guys house (import broker) and said I'd buy it on the day :)

I'm sure you'll be able to find more like this though around the auctions! Just state what you want to IronChef or anyone, even use this pic if you want?

Pretty much my plan is once the Berlina has been sold I'll have enough cash to get the import process rolling and then I"ll get Iron Chef to start looking for something remarkably like your car.

What's the difference between Type-S and Type-V in this facelifted facelift series?

Aaron - In regards to Facelifts: The Type S has AYC and wheel arches. You can only get manual Type S Legnums, but both Type V and S Auto Legnums. With Galants you can get both in Auto as well, but only manuals in Type V spec.

What's the difference between Type-S and Type-V in this facelifted facelift series?

Main differences for a Galant:

Type S will be auto only, with AYC, flares and high viz dash.

Type V will not have AYC, will not have flares and will only have high viz dash after the mid-ish 2000 update.

so why do you want a type V? i have a pearl 2001 type S that i shall be selling when it gets here from Japan. 90,000km, 17inch gold wheels, foglight covers, different grille, and leather seat covers front and back. if ur interested let me know.

In short:

Type V Galant = Manual = Win
Type S Galant = Auto = FAIL.

I have Type-V Manual =]
