Hey All,

Can't seem to find this via search but I was wandering if there is any way to get the headlights to turn of when the car turns off(or the turbo timer stops)?

Use to this in my old car and I can just see myself leaving my headlights on.

Cheers,

Ant

i have this in my car - it came with it from japan though. looks to be ALOT of wiring to mess around with (goes to your headlights, and theres a little thing that sits on your dash)

I have had a think about this, i think there is a way to do it.

Our cars have a switch that recognizes when the key is in the ignition, not ACC or ON but just sitting in there.

The connection from the barrel could be used as a circuit breaker inline with the Headlamp fuse.

All you would need to do is find which wire it is and hook in a relay.

Key comes out, headlights go off. Only thing would be that the key would need to be in to operate the headlights.

I will have a look tomorrow and let you know if i find a way.

What Scottie said, you just have to put a switch in line with your ignition to close the headlight circuit when your car is on.... Not hard, but fiddly I would imagine. Haven't done it to mine yet, prob cause i'm selling them :P

Have some rep Scottie.... Not that you need, damn mods and their rep ;)

There is also a thread somewhere, maybe on clubvr4 but I thought here, where a guy has hooked up his lights to work off a light sensor so they auto come on like those fancy pants bmw's / mercedes.

Hugh i think thats what josh is talking about, some cars from japan as early as 94 had auto lights the same as the newer cars we are seeing here.

our 94 Model Delica Super Exceed has it, you put the switch to auto and when its dark they turn on, when the car turns off and you get out they are off

Im guesing josh's car has this auto feature on the light switch stalk but it would be too much work to put it in a car without it.

what the guys were saying about the key barrel could work thou if you knew how to work it out.

if anyone works it out let us know i would be interested :-)

For anyone looking to do this, you will need a closed loop relay and harness.

All you need to do is place the output side in line with the headlight switch cable (Which should be the red cable in the headlight switch) and the input line will need to be piggybacked off the ignition line (Should be the black and white cable at the ignition switch). Turn the car off and leave your headlights on and they'll go off because the loop will open :)

I don't know how you would stop the "bonging" that you left your lights on though lol

Lol....

Where you have that "12V+" is actually the headlight switch. When the switch is turned on it'll close the loop for the headlights, making them turn on. What we are doing is making that stay closed and contolling it off the ignition :)

lol someone is going to blow a main fuse or something doing this but no one wants to be the person that does it lol

I'm getting this feeling that i'm being prodded with a stick to do this hahaha

Wow awesome replies guys :)

Well if anyone succeeds in doing this I'd love to know how it goes... and I'd love some pictures... God I love pictures :P

My 1985 Toyota Century had automatic lights :P

I'm also interested in doing both these to the Legume.

Josh, the guy's talking about auto light OFF.. not auto turn ON...

Well i found the circuit for the key..

The two bottom pins are the ones.

The cicuit is closed when the key is out, not in.

Would be a real pain in the ass to hook up tho.

Also, if anyone is interested, i looked into making an auto mirror fold-in circuit. Unfortunately the middle position on the switch doesn't complete a circuit at all. You would have to make something yourself and i am not that keen.
