AYC Fluid or ATF SPIII?

Sorry for (Another) probably stupid question but have done a few searches and haven't found a completely straight answer. I am getting my Major service done on Monday and am supplying all my fluids (Mechanic thought that would be easier,at least I know what's going in)
Anyway to the point. To service the AYC I have orderd 2 litres of AYC fluid from Mitsubishi @$68.00L:mellow: A mate of mine with an Evo says the AYC fluid can be replaced with Mitsubishi Diamond SPIII even in the Hydraulic pump bit? I ead that in the UK you cannot buy AYC any more and ATF is the replacement? I thought that I needed the AYC fluid. Considering I am picking up 15L of ATF on Friday can I use that for the whole AYC or do I need the AYC fluid? Sorry if this is a repeat question, I'm new to the VR-4 and don't want to kill it in my first 2 weeks.
Thanks a lot everyone.

Active Yaw Control
Recommended Viscosity: Automatic Transmission Fluid
Recommended Specs: ATF SP III
How much you need: 3L
Reccomended Brands: Mitsubishi Diamond, Amsoil
Brands used by other members: Fuchs, Redline, BP.

AYC centre just uses the correct spec ATF. If the 15L you're picking up on Friday is Mitsubishi SPIII, you can just use that.

Yeah just make sure it is actually SP-3 complaint, and not dextron or other.

SPIII is the recommended fluid for the AYC system, about $45 for 5 litres. You can also use this in your power steering and automatic transmission.

The SPIII goes in the drivers side of the AYC system.

The passenger side is a normal diff and uses GL-5... Castrol Syntrax (NOT Syntrans!) is an easy to get hold of choice. GL-5 is also used for the transfer case.

There are lots of different fillers and drains on the AYC diff which could be confusing so you want to make sure have a good guide to follow. You also need to know how to properly bleed the air from the AYC system and to do this you either need a home made electronic box, a Laptop plus Evoscan & cable, or a genuine Mitsubishi MUT tool. The air bleeding must be done.

It's also best to have the car level when filling the diff and transfer case so that the level is correct, it can make a huge difference if not. This means getting all four corners up on stands which can be a little scary. I usually put one end on ramps then put stand under the other.

Ok thanks a lot guys.I am thinking of doing the transfer case and diff myself and letting My mechanic take care of the AYC bleed. So I don't need AYC Fluid at all? That will save me mega $$$. Should 15L of Mitsubishi Diamond SPIII ATF be enough for a Trans flush and fill,PS flush and fill,And AYC bleed and fill, or should I get 20L to be safe?

just as long as your mechanic has the proper tools for servicing the AYC.. usually done with the MUT-II device or evoscan if he's got it..

where in QLD?

If your mechanic works on Evos and has the special Mitsubishi MUT tool then they can do the AYC part for you. Usually only Evo specialists and Mitsubishi dealers have the MUT tools. However, if they only have OBD tools like most cars use then they won't be able to do it, as it won't talk to our cars.

No you do not need any special "AYC fluid".. only SPIII.

The amount you need all depends on how much is needed to flush your transmission until it flows clean. If you don't want to be caught out, then buy an extra 5L. If you are going to keep the car any longer than a year you will end up using the extra sometime any.

From memory, the transmission holds 8.9L. So you have a few litres on top of that for flushing. The AYC holds 0.65~0.70L plus whatever the reservoir in the boot requires to top up to its correct dipstick level (I think it holds about 1L including the hydraulic piping) so however much you decide to flush that with too.

And if you decide to flush and fill your power steering, there's another couple of litres.

Thanks a lot that will be much better than springing for AYC fluid.I'll go for the 20L to be safe.I am in Townsville,I'm having the service done at Xtreme Motorsports and they said they have a few regular Evos and have the MUT to do my AYC.
Thanks again.
