AYC - leaking and groaning

As the title suggest, my AYC diff leaks and groans. First noticed by Trev when we were giving the car a service, there was ayc fluid on the bottom of my diff casing but we couldn't tell exactly where it was leaking from. After we Trev serviced it, we took the car for a bit of a flogging and on the way back started to hear a groan out the back.
We checked the fluid when we got back and sure enough it was pretty low. We filled the ayc container in the boot right to the top and I have been keeping an eye on it's level for the past 2 weeks. With normal driving to work and back the fluid level was not dropping. I gave it a good thrashing through some country roads for about 15 minutes yesterday and on the way back it started to groan again. Checked the level when i got home and it had dropped significantly, but still had quite a bit of fluid left as we had overfilled it.
I have no plans to upgrade to s-ayc or anything like that, just want to get out of this without a huge hole in my pocket. Would even consider a type-v diff if worst comes to worse. Im a bit of a newb with mechanics, so just looking for some general advise. Should I start looking for a new diff? Should I have mine taken apart and resealed? How much should I pay?

I'm not sure on an answer, but in the meantime it might pay to pull the fuse to prevent it doing any more damage to itself.

Chris, i can help you take the diff out so you can get it resealed. Tis not overly difficult. Cannot imagine it would cost too much to fix. That or maybe check ASA and find out how the cover goes on and we give it a crack with that special Mitsi sealant. I have a torque wrench so we could make sure we put it back on proper.

Just a thought. Might save a heap of cash if you can be without the car for a couple of days.

Thanks Trev, that would be sweet. I'll try to do a bit of research into my options but either way it will definitely save me some money if we can at least remove and refit the diff ourselves rather then take the whole car to a shop. If the cost of rebuild/replacement is high, will look into what's involved in resealing it.

didn't happen to get a cost of a rebuild yet did you?

my diff went mid last week NOT GOOD taking the diff out atm might be able to give you an idea of what might be happening to yours and what will end up happening... i didn't hear a groan or anything before-hand but its definitely done and dusted..
