G'day guys,
I couldn't find any info on this thru search so i hope im not wastin time with already asked Q's... Anyway - Im a proud new owner of an 1999 Leggie type S and i love it! So the question is, when a plant my foot down it seems to beep and feels like its cutting fuel too... around 4000ish. It does not do it when i accelerate in a controlled manner (at which point it still roars with kw's, as the power band starts around 2800ish) but when i go 'pedal to the medal it seems to limit the engine and beep as its doing this. Is this normal? Just a ''your a dickhead'' beep? I figured it might be something to protect the turbos but im not sure. It does still rev past 4000, just not when i really floor it. Maybe i should just slow down and stop beating falcodores at the lights :ROFLMAO:.

Thanks for any advice

Cheers
Ed

Is it an electronic beeping noise? Does it sound like it is coming from a speaker or as if it is electronically generated?

Im pretty sure it did but was removed for compliance. i thought being disconnected it wouldnt still work, guess it does... When i bought the car there was a wiring harness hanging below the dash and the prev owner said he thought it was a boost controller that was removed.
So probably that is limiting PSI to a specified pressure? Maybe those wires are for a gauge and the controller is still connected... ill do a search on here for boost controllers

Definately not the speaker, i thought it was the reversing beep at first, but it isnt, slightly different tone. and it seems to limit fuel or something as it becomes sluggish whilst its beeping, revs increase much slower.

It might be something to do with boost levels. Does it do it if you are 1000rpm in 3rd and floor it? Does it take until about 2500rpm to start beeping?

yeh about 2500 usually but it isnt consistant. I think it does have to do with boost levels, it generally happens when ive already been giving it a bit or say, doing 100km then accelerating hard. I havint had a chance to have a good look or experiment, but you've given me plenty of ideas. It does get annoying but im still trying to determine wether its a saftey thing for the turbos or something malfunctioning. Yeh maybe a boost controller? do electronic controller incorporate a beep when there opening up/bypassing (or whatever)?
There isnt a 'how to' on changing auto gearbox oil is there. the cvr4 websight wont let me access . Doesnt look toooo hard anyways. got my spIII.

you have to join it only costs $40 and you get access to all the guides ant their help if you need it well worth the price even just for the guides

Sounds like the remnants of an old boost controller, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

qball is right, just sign up and pay your money, it is worth it.

Mm ok. I might look into it a bit further as im curious what it would be set at...?
Yeh i reckon i will sign up & pay. Pretty much like buying the workshop manual i suppose. I fixed my clock from the write up on here...
Thanks

Ok so i don't know if anyone will read this thread but... I found a HKS Boost controller (with terrible wiring that blew the accessory fuse the second i 'moved' it). I cleaned up the wiring a little and Yeh thats the culprit. Im going to do some reading up on it to find out how i can benefit from this little mod. When i blew the fuse i drove somewhere before fixing it and i noticed the car felt crap... like it was a 2.5L 6 cylininder naturally aspirated car.
Anyways thankyou for the advice, and if anyone has any useful info on how to operate one of these that'd be great! Looks like its all in kg/cm or something not PSI as most of the talk on here is. Now i hope i dont kill my car with it being incorrectly set or something...
Cheers

The boost controller will more then likely be in BAR, or mm/Hg which is basically the same as BAR.
Just be careful with boost as it is easy to damage an engine from too much boost, making the engine lean out and melt a piston etc!

I am running around .90 BAR, spiking to around 1.00 BAR sometimes.

The VR4s have a boost cut safety in them (which is like hitting the brakes hard when it cuts in!) so it is relatively safe to experiment, but as long as you stay less then 1 BAR (14.7psi) you should be alright.

Good to hear you found what it was mate, and it makes me happy to hear when people tear out crap work and do it again :D

Download the user guide from the net, reset it and start from scratch. Don't bother fixing someone elses mistakes, it'll end in pain :)

Ok so i did the learning mode thing and the car was good again sort of but i disconnected the battery and i wont get a chance to 'red line 3rd gear' as it requires, before the SA cruise on sunday. So im going to try and set it for .8 or something, i just cant bloody understand what the thing is doing! its always got things flashing with 'lows' and 'highs' and i havnt had much luck following the manual. Hopefully one of the SA dudes can show me before we set off on Sunday.

Hi all, I'm new to this place... Just bought my first legnum 2000 type s last week and loving it!
I have been driving it lately and noticed it's doing this exact same beeping thing mentioned above, is it worth taking it too a mechanic and putting in a turbo timer or is it fine just to leave with out it doing any harm ...
Any advice would be great! Cheers

It's a noise when you exceed a boost level at on the aftermarket boost controller. You need to set it up properly.

Probably a HKS unit as they beep like this when they exceed the preset boost limit. Google "HKS EVC setup guide" and there should be a PDF set of instructions kn how to set them up properly.
