This is a great forum btw. haha

Brenten,
have a good look around especially at this LINK. it will help answer a lot of your questions. So far the most difficult parts to obtain seem to be panels and even they haven't taken to long to source.

I'll tell you a story. A mate of mine used to own an R33, but sold it 'cause he was sick of how expensive and difficult parts were to source, and bought a V8 commodore thingy from around '94 'cause its apparently got lots of power and parts would be easy to find (I know next-to-nothing about commondores, so feel free to laugh at my fumbling attempts to describe them).

Anyway, three months after he got the commodore the clutch went, and a replacement took seven weeks. Two weeks after that the transmission blew, and that took NINE weeks to replace. Then after four weeks back on the road some other part of the clutch that hadn't been replaced went, and the car was off the road for another six weeks.

Now it's running again and he's finally happy, but he's seriously considering getting rid of it for another Japanese import because he's seen that local cars aren't necessarily any better.

And just to share my personal experience, I can order parts from Mitsubishi Japan through a parts importer, pay them as soon as they confirm price and availability (usually within 1 working day) and they ship it as soon as payment clears. The longest I've had to wait for parts from time of shipping is four working days. Once I ordered stuff on a Thursday and received the shipment the following Monday. Now this is only for items small enough for air freight, so no panels, bumpers or anything really heavy, but it gives you an idea what you can do with the right contacts.

The good news is everything you could possibly need can already be found right here on these forums :)

Welcome to the site Brenton. Get yourself a VR4 dude - not just for all the reasons they make sense, but also because you'll regret it if you don't ;)

Thanks Peter_D and SiliconAngel your inputs are helping me understand that parts are not that hard to get so can a lot of Legnum parts be ordered through a local Mitsubishi Dealer?

Ooh no - order them through SiliconAngel, or other forum members.. You'd rather they get your commission, than the Mitsubishi shop, wouldnt you?

ALL parts can be ordered through Mitsubishi Australia, as they have a worldwide parts network. Only problem is, they'll take 6 to 8 weeks through MMA and they'll charge you 2 to 300% of what they cost in Japan.

Take a look at the table I put in the 100,000km service thread to get an idea on the pricing disparity.

Trevor, not to mention the fact that "if you wanted" you could have spanked your mates busted up Australian Delivered car with your Legnum! lol

Welcome Brenton, dont hesitate mate, I have driven HEAPS of different cars, and onwed heaps! The Legnum and Galant VR4 is one of the best bang for buck cars I have driven!

Come along to a car wash night, and get someone to take you for a drive, you will see for yourself.

Catch you around mate, and happy hunting!

Just another story from experience.

I have a 1986 Ford meteor wagon , which is the same as a mazda 323 wagon (ie lexan/commo thingie)
Anywho , i starts to mod this and that and so on , and in the long run i ended up with a whole Jspec front from a GTAE mazda familia(same car) , interior for the same thing , odds and ends , all odd jspec shit from the mid 80's from various places.

I bought as much as i could so i didnt have to try and find it later on because ''it was import stuff and it was hard to get'' , even down to the 1.6 dohc turbo conversion stuff i chucked in.

so even finding old stuff like that from J land isnt hard to get , if you look in the right places , But remember i was chasing shit that is now 22 years old , and that never came to this country , except for private imports. Oh and the Less that 100 aus delivered ones.

Cut a long story short , you can get what you need if something stuffs up.
And you are in the right place to find it.

Sorry if i am rambling on , i bought some beers earlier on and .... yeah. hahaha

Oh by the way , if you want a very very very very very nice japan beer , try Yebisu malt , made by Sapporo for those playing at home.

i think Ive tried Kirin i think its called that's a nice drop... well this has been a very interesting little information sessions its food for thought when it comes time for me to make up my mind, which wont be for a few more months but its nice to hear of a Jap car that seems to have a good bunch of blokes attached to it that are willing to help you out.... I was thinking about getting a Nissan Stagea, but if im getting a Jap import its gonna be a legnum for shore now :). Just out of interest how many legnum owners are there in the northern suburbs of melbourne say around epping? and thanks to everyone that has had there say its helping me figure the facts out:)

Kirin Ichiban is a nice drop - shame its much harder to find around the place. Sapporo Draught is easily found in christchurch (but then again, so are legnums, over there). I do quite like Asahi Superdry, but it is rather commonly found as the "japanese beer".

*Play with cars first, then beer, not the other way round..

Your in luck mate, I think the next car wash is going to be out near Bryan, who is in Essendon I think. So not too bad for someone from Epping!

Hey guys how much do you think a "Legnum Facelift, Manual, Type S, Under 90Ks, and in great condition" set me back roughly Landed and complied?

Brenten, what will be interesting is to compare a VT Commodore vs a Series 1 Legnum/Galant.

The quality, features and how they hold up a few years down the track will astound you as well. Welcome to the site!

Really depends on colour, condition and options as well - chuck in some recaros or a sunroof in a black car and add $3k+ to Brad's guess. But without upgraded seats, sunroof etc in white might be as low as $13k, it really depends on a range of factors - 'great condition' leaves a hell of a lot open to interpretation!

well SiliconAngel, by great condition i mean no marks, in spotless condition, no dents, no nothing, possibly some small light scratches but no more than 1 or 2 and sunroof and recaros would be good but no necessary also any colour really. Blue, Purple, white, silver, Grey, black just not red or yellow basically lol (on colors does anyone have a colour chart for the legnum?) anyway to anyone that is in Melbourne Who do they recommend to get a Legnum through? preferably Northern Suburbs???? just trying to get an idea who is good and who i should stick away from thanks Brenten

You'll pay a premium for an extremely clean example, having said that it's certainly not impossible as some members have found.

Also bear in mind the prices mentioned are for importing yourself - if you buy from a dealer you'll pay a hefty premium, varying from $2k to $10k. If you're unsure what this entails, check out the guide linked in my sig.

Brenten, welcome to the site..

like you said.. good bunch of blokes are attached to these cars who will help to get your issue sorted.. there are some special ones out there too that might give you an extra service.. :ROFLMAO: I think his nick is 'Frozen' :ROFLMAO:..

also.. I suggest you get a Galant as there's alot of Legumes out in Oz already :D

but seriously either way you decide.. Leggy or Galant.. you've made the right choice..
