Bringing an 8G from NZ to QLD - what's the ins and outs please?

Hey guys! NZer living in Brisbane currently. Have a 6G VR-4 Evolution sitting in NZ which have been considering bringing over but thought may be better off bringing over an 8G VR-4 instead.

I understand that in order to get around the 15 year rule, a harsher compliance check and additional rego costs that I have to have owned the vehicle in my home country for at least 12 months. Is this more or less correct?

Given that 8G VR-4s are relatively cheap in NZ, I am thinking of picking up a cheap one now perhaps needing a little work which I can do over time, get it up to a good mechanical standard and then bring it over in 12 months time.

The reason I would do this is because 8G VR-4s in Oz seem to be around the AUD$8-15k while in NZ the same car would be around the NZD$2-5k mark, and I know shipping to Oz is less than NZD$2000 drive on-drive off.

Does everyone think the prices for 8Gs on eBay or on here are realistic asking prices? Ie is it worth waiting it out and just trying to find a bargain one in Oz to turn up? Does that even happen?

The other thing I would like to know, is are there any restrictions on how soon you can sell the car once you've imported and complied it? Just thought I would check as I may end up trading it in/selling at some stage after bringing it to Oz, and I know that in NZ if you've brought over a car from say the US, you are not able to sell it for x amount of months afterwards.

They seem to be selling in the AUD $8k-$12k range at the moment.

The term you want to search for is "Personal import"

You would still have to go through compliance i would think costing $2-3000. It has been asked before but depending on what you are bringing in it might not be financially beneficial

2-5k to buy, 2k compliance, 1k rego, thats getting close buying one Australia. Still if you could find a nice one in that price range it would be worthwhile.

it will need side impact bars in the doors if not fitted $100
child ancors in the back $17 Plus fitting
Petrol Filler neck reducer if not fitted $70 fitted
import plate $80
Saftey cert $79
$131 base insurance
$390 rego
