hey guys im in the market for a new car been looking at some VR-4's found a nice manual but it is type V which means it misses out an the AYC diff.

how do you guys find the standard open diff in the type V?

what LSD options are available for a reasonable price?

im not too fussed about missing out on AYC but i'd need to have some type of LSD....

You can get a cusco LSD center for your non-AYC diff.

No one without AYC has complained here about not having it.

But I'd say it's because they have no idea what they are missing :P

Its an Open Diff............... Not LSD

Dawso has the cusco LSD equipped VR4 so is best to enlighten us as to the worth of it !

Oh Dawso ??????

I was under the impression it was a open slip diff.

It probably won't have an LSD. They only ever left the factory with AYC or an open diff. Just because a car yard claims it has an LSD doesn't make it so :)

The AYC diff's can be a bit fragile and they need a bit more work on them come servicing time, the stock open diff only needs an oil change every 50,000km or so, whereas the AYC diff needs it's ATF in the clutch packs changed every 5000-10000km depending on your driving style.

Personally I love the AYC as it makes the car feel a lot more nimble and helps quell understeer, yet at the same time it does not limit power at all which is what almost every other car does with their stability systems!

Quoted from [thread=8443]Hi I am new[/thread]

Personally I like the fact that the Type-V weighs less than the Type-S, and with the decent rubber on the ground it should make very little difference at all.

yeh i have done alot of searching on this and i still cant find a concrete answer.

most people suggest that it is an open diff but no one seems %100.

also alot of people say you can get the cusco lsd but im still skeptical if you can.

you can get a cusco diff to replace an AYC center but the housing for the Type s AYC diff and Type V diff are different, therefore cusco would have needed to make a completly different center to fit the type v's

Oh Dawso ??????

Oh, hai guise!

I have had both and both have their pros and cons.

I wouldn't bother with your diff TBH. Too expensive for SFA gain.

Like Brock said, put more rubber on the ground if you're worried about grip :)

(Also, if you REALLY want an LSD, you may have to get the Evo RS diff including the casing. Expect to pay HUGE dollars for it though)

I can't comment on Type-V's (Although I have been in a couple, I haven't driven one myself) but here is some light reading from comments I have made previously -

AYC Pros:
Handling
Comes standard (On most cars anyway)

LSD Pros:
(Refering to the Cusco LSD in mine)
Fun
Predictable handling, but not as good as AYC
Unbreakable....ish

AYC Cons:
Its fragile
Expensive
Requires lots of servicing
Tempremental
Did I mention its fragile?

LSD Cons:
Makes tight carparks a BITCH
Won't save you.... You have to be able to drive to use it
Noisy (Lee and Regi can vouch for this)
Causes understeer before oversteer, kinda like a normal RWD drive
Makes its own choices when launching....

Thanks Dawso

And Kenneth is the man for expansion of the knowledge base on this subject.........

Oh Kenneth, where for arte thou ?????

^ She doesn't know EVERYTHING but between her and her contacts she could get any info you want lol

I know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little..... my claim to fame.....:lol::lol:

Does this mean I should remove you, from my black-book???

You know its based on more than lust, with you Rob !!!!!

farrrk what a thread hi-jack!!!

any guestimates on this RS stuff 1K? or more?

i'd really like to hear from a type V owner who has driven both and lost traction particularly while turning.

i come from a background of RWD nissans so limiter bashing traction loss is inevitable.

I haven't driven a Type-S sorry, but I have lost traction in my Type-V with stock rims and rubber. But now that I've got the 245 Kumo Ku36 it hasn't missed a beat (and there have been times I've expected to drift over into the second lane and it hasn't).

They are AWD. One has an active diff, one doesn't..... What more do you want to know?

By the time traction is lost, its AWD that saves you (And ability obviously) NOT AYC. AYC only works BEFORE traction is lost. Once AYC lets go, you could be in either and it would make no difference.

Last RS diff I saw including casing was about $3k though Meek Automotive (Secondhand)

Steve, after being in mine, would you say that putting a locker in the back makes it a driftable vehicle?
