G'Day Everyone,

Ivan (x3emotorsports) and myself were spending all of today doing some tinkering when we had a peek under the car to remove the front bar.

Here's a photo of what we saw, passenger front side looking "up" into the engine bay.

Can anyone spot the problem/know what we were looking at?

Loki may have been like this since I've owned it, with the plastic stone guard tray masking off this area until it was removed to have a peek. I had not much of an idea whereas the full horror of what had happened began to sink into Ivan's mind.

Discuss!

damn.. I wonder what it would've done to your engine and turbos if you ran it like that for quite a long time..

I also notice in 'member's ride' you've got new BOV there.. what brand is that?

btw.. do you think you've been running without your bov since you got the car or have you felt any driving/performace difference in your car lately?

a few people hav run without BOV's and their cars haven't blown up, I wouldn't stress a huge amount

What's wrong with the photo? It's a bit too overexposed, and perhaps has too much cyan.

;)

automatic cars

Your car is automatic right, correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought BOVs weren't strictly needed on automatics, so not having one probably wouldn't do much damage.

*lol* Mike, love a different take on things :)

Yep, you guessed it, half of it is not even there. As soon as a new one was fitted by Ivan (x3emotorsport), it made a big difference in how the power was delivered especially between gear changes.

That may also be contributed to the fact that the OEM hosing was replaced with the silicon/steel spring reinforced hosing but after taking it for a drive for an hour last night, it's great.

Seriously, it is WAY different. At 1/4 throttle, its power delivery is the same at 2/3 throttle, with power coming on much earlier and more responsive.

When Katie drove it, you could see here eyes flare wide with the "f"-bomb being whispered under her breath when we took it out for a spin tonight with her at the wheel. We just got back!

I need one of you guys to drive it at the Victorian Car Wash Meet this Wednesday, because I need someone to compare benchmarks with your own rides. A stocker preferably. Here's a pic of the new BOV installed, an "x3e" unit fitted and supplied by Ivan for me to assess.

Carsten mentioned in my "Members' Ride" thread that I should possible relocate it to prevent damage to it.

Brad, it was probably why Loki was so sedate when you came over.

It DOES look pretty damn low in that photo, Gav. Is the tow-hook substantially lower than it? If it's lower than the bottom of the tow hook I'd definitely relocate it. If it's a bit higher it might be ok though - you'd have to hit something pretty substantial with your stone guard installed for it to damage the BOV then.

*ahem* someone else who drives it is used to 4WD clearances.

lol, my front cut has one of those special 'low profile' factory BOV's.... :) Probably didn't help when the guy at the yard picked it up with a forklift.

Look on the bright side, bar for some feedback, at least I was never in real danger of overboosting.

Although the backwards surge I experienced between gear changes is now gone... I thought it was a "feature" of this car. Damn my rudimentary mechanical skills. First foray in turbo-powered cars, this Loki of mine!

wow that bov is fair low, its not to hard to relocate. good to see it sorted and is the BOV plumb back or ATMO?

How handy are you and what will I need on Wednesday night? :)
