HEy Guys,

I want to purchase some washing stuff like a wash mit and chamois etc.

where would you guys suggest i go?

Thanks

Tristian

I usually go the cheap shops like crazy clarks for simple stuff like buckets, microfibre cloths etc etc but for actual products i'd use something decent from any autoshop. I use Turtle Wax ICE stuff and it works great and also use a lot of Meguiars waxes and polishes. I tend to stay away from Armor all stuff now as it seems to be pretty low quality. For example if you use the interior "protectant" you can feel the sticky greasy crap on everything for weeks afterwards, and the cars dash ends up dustier then before. And their wheel cleaner is amazingly acidic, I stopped using it on my painted wheels after it stained my concrete driveway. But yeah i tend to buy all my stuff when it's on special, otherwise it costs a fortune buying them as you need.

Never use Armourall, your trim will fade worse than before.

Meg's Quick Detailer (orig/Ultimate or Speed) are a must have and are safe for trim, great for a restoring a quick shine or just if you can't be arsed 'waxing'.

For 'waxing' your paint you should be using a polymer sealant.

Look for a Meguiares (?sp) wash mitt (wool with mesh on the back), a bit pricey compared to the rest of the stuff out there, but it works very well. Also, instead of the typical chamois, try to use a Microfibre Chamois/Cloths instead, works much better when drying the car.

You can grab these from any Repco/SuperCheap, but if your really interested in detailing take a look at detailparadise.com.au and waxit.com.au

Meguiars non acid wheel cleaner works a real treat, and their top end polishe/waxes (I think the one I use is extreme or ultimate x by Meguiars.. it has a green lid)

Turtlewax ICE is good, my bro uses it on his Forester GT.. His car always looks clean... Partly due to him always cleaning it but it holds its shine really well between proper polishing.

And only use micro fibre cloths, you can buy big bundles of a dozen or so from auto stores pretty cheap.

If you want to test any cloth or polish before you use it on your car - a CD or DVD has similar softness to our clear coat. So try the product you intend use on one first to see if it will scratch the paintwork.

I use an Enjo microfibre mitt to wash, and a chamois I got from waxit to dry.
Been using Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax but thought I'd try their more expensive NXT Tech Wax 2.0 (or some stupid name like that). Only waxed it last week so I don't know if it lasts that much longer yet.

Tech Wax is a reasonable 'consumer grade' polymer sealant. I usually use that too and although it doesn't last very long the water does run off really well afterwards.

The good thing about the Tech Wax is that it's really fast & easy to apply and polish off and doesn't leave any residue or powder.

But I am considering getting something else from Waxit and looking for a sealant that will last 3-6 months without needing to be reapplied.

chamWOW!

haha has anyone actually tried one? i only have a traditional chamois atm and its a pain in the ass

Some of the stuff you buy at Autobahn is ok like the Autoglym super resin polish (All Autoglym products are good) and Megs Clay bar pack. As for a wash I would suggest the best value for money is the Duragloss #901 wash concentrate, you can order this from waxit.com.au. For the full process you need to wash well with the Duragloss then Clay bar (this gives the car is glass like finish removes rough bits) then apply Autoglym super resin polish. You can leave it at this stage if you like as this is an all in one product but you may want to give an additional coat of sealant (either Klasse/Zaino or if you are lazy Opti seal) then if you are feeling in the mood you could apply some nice wax, but make sure you get a good quality wax (dodo juice, Autoglym, P21s,Poorboys if you are rich Swissvax)

I use a microfibre cloth for drying too, it works at least as good as a chamois. And I don't trust any of those washmits etc not to cause swirl marks. Get a 'grout sponge' from Bunnings instead for loose change, I see them recommended by a lot of detailers. They are a nice size to work with, don't flop about and don't hold in dirt like some other sponges can, so they rinse out easily.

shamWOW

and i heard that it is a load of crap haha, even if it is made by germans

Big W has the cheapest car cleaning products around. I was bored one day and needed the car cleaned so Went to Big W, Kmart, Autobahn and Repco. Big W was cheapest and by quite a bit. They stock Meguiares products aswell as all the usual cheapies like turtlewax.

Guess everyone has their own preferred method of cleaning and favourite products. I like the pink Meguiares car wash, microfibre mit and a decent quality chamois (tried microfibre for drying but didnt like it). Ive heard a few people say bad things about Armourall but Ive used it on every car Ive ever owned and always been happy with the results.

SHAMWOW is crap LOL

I bought one out of sheer curiousity and it left coloured fibres all over my car!! Man that was a pain to clean..

Anyway, I'm curious about NXT TechWax 2.0 as apparently it's pretty good?

I use MOTHERS stuff at home, as I scored a free bucket full of Mothers goodies from AutoSalon magazine one year haha..

I also use a microfibre mit (which I now need to replace as it is so ripped up and stretched from my DOGS.. and a dancy cloth chamois that works really well!

Don't use Armorall it looks good for about 10 minutes and then you need to use it again. Try some 303 Aerospace Protectant you won't reget it, its looks great on black plastics.

I have previously used Meguairs Nexy gen tech wax (not the 2.0), and although it is very easy to apply, it never seemed to last a long time. Admittedly my car is outside all day at work, under AVTUR fallout. It did however look great on my gunmetal grey R32.

I recently used Driven automotive polish (from glowrydaz during a demo day) and found it was just as easy to apply, and also gave an awesome finish. I only did my bonnet on the day, but would have to say it seems to have stood up very well for 4 months. I recently purchased a bottle ($40 is still cheaper than you can get NXT for), and did the whole car. I was told it would last upto 6 months, and I think that should be fairly accurate.

Okay, trying to clean those wheels now, got the grease and brake dust off but there is some solid build up, almost like calcium buildup or something...
Its really well stuck to the paint, does anyone have any advice?

Would Scourer pads or very fine sandpaper be safe? 'Cause thats all I can think of at the moment and they seem like a bad idea...
