anyone knowledgeable on how the centre diff works in our cars? is it the same as the evo?

just thinking out aloud, but if so, you'd think it would be possible to connect a centre diff controller like the motec one and allow us to vary the proportion or rear drive.

Stabbing in the dark here, but I haven't read or heard anything about these centre diffs being electronically controlled; that's what the ASC, TCL and AYC is for with keeping complete traction. I'm pretty sure that they are just the viscous type.

FYI the electronically controlled centre diffs didn't come out until 2003 in the evo 8, so given that I would doubt it would be in anything pre 2002.

An idea though... I remember the old R32 skylines at bathurst had a mechanical bias controller for the centre diff. Could be possible to control it mechanically.

thought Mitsubishi centre diffs are all mechanical, therefore can't be electronically controlled!? I was looking at it and seems like no electrical plugs were attached to it..

The evo diff is hydraulic, with a solenoid control. The motec control unit takes control of this solenoid.

the awd setup is the same as the evo 4-6's trav, that motec centre diff controller is for the active centre diff in the evo 7-9's.

it also disables the AYC as far as i know, so you can only do front/rear control.

yeah we don't have an ACD

We have the same transfer case as the evo4-6. It can run from 50/50 to 40/60, dunno how to vary it though

again with my question.. can't we just swap our centre diffs with the evo 7+?!

IMO surely unless you're pushing more than 250 awkw will you start having traction problems. I wouldn't dick with something that's already working perfectly.;)

80%? why not do it properly....I wanna go 100% baby!

damn straight! i'd be keen for legnum drifting :ROFLMAO:
it's a pity its not like ATTESA where you can just drop the front shaft, my mates 600rwhp stag in RWD mode is awesome!

Can any one tell me what type of diff the center diff is? I.e. can't be open, must be a "LSD" of some variety, clutch pack, torsen etc?

Was the R32 GT-R a mechanical centre diff or was it electric, cause I've heard there is a fuse in the R32 GT-R that you can remove to disable torque going to the front axle.

The GT-R setup has an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch pack type arrangement that sends torque to the front wheels as required. Very different to what's in our cars.

Quite. I can guarantee there's nothing you can do to vary power in the VR4 transfer case from front to back. You COULD control the AYC system electronically if you were so inclined - I bet you could make a custom controller to make it act like an LSD if you really wanted to, but the way its designed is probably a lot better than you'd be able to reverse-engineer anyway ;)

Nice classic thread mining, btw :P
