Hesitantly Boosting
Howdy all.
Just looking to gather some more information on my legnums clutch.
It was replaced in November 2009 by SKR. It is the model "MBK-7420SO", Exedy Sports Organic.
According to the previous owner (who got it put in) the bellhousing was not shaved when the clutch was put in. The flywheel was machined (according to my receipts)
The issue with the clutch is the following:
When launching, or changing gears (and the revs aren't matched), the clutch grinds. It is fairly severe and sounds like chewbacca taking an AGB (after grog bog)
What are the common issues that cause this? I was told it is an EVO clutch and it does this, I don't know what to think. Jonson assures me that it is just a characteristic of the clutch and that I should live with it or replace it.. BUT:
Last night, after coming home from a hills cruise, I went to launch hard. I had left my foot on the clutch slightly and the clutch slipped quite heavily (due to my foot). I figured it was alright and kept driving.
Parked at my friends house for twenty minutes, and upon starting the car and taking off, the grinding had completely gone! Sadly, only for ~5 launches... then it came back.
Can anyone spare any light onto this? Are there any possible fixes short of taking the clutch out/replacing it? Any advice is appreciated. I'm no mechanic.
