Has anyone fitted there own coilovers. How hard can it be. What should you look out for when doing so. How do you go about adjusting the height of the car. What else should be done whilst doing the job. Will a wheel alignment be necessary afterwards.
So many questions so few answers. Had a look but couldn't find any detailed instructions on how to do the fitting.

christian should know quite a lot on this topic... seemed easy enough however if they are not brand new i would recommend getting them all cleaned out first (shouldnt cost much to get done, i used TSR in slacks creek) as sometimes they cant be adjusted on the car if they are even a little bit dirty and they get stuck... will be a few ours of a job..

Thinking I might chuck on a BBQ and beers at my place when I get them and want them fitted. Get a few of the guys over and get the job done then sit back and have a few beers. Job first THEN beers. Otherwise nothing will get done.

Mine came with 2 C-spanners to adjust the heigh. Pretty straight forward to do once they are in.

You will need a wheel alignment unless you are leaving it at the same height it already is.

I haven't fitted coilovers, but I have Bilsteins and Tein S.Tech's and have swapped my shocks and springs around enough times to know that it is a pretty easy job, if your handy with a spanner of course.

I can't be bothered writing a full instruction on how-to, but I followed this guide on ClubVR4 (need to be a Premium Member).

As what Hugh has said, changing the height is done with the C-Spanner, just make sure you have consistent height's at either end of the car :)

And yes, it is recommended to get a wheel alignment after doing basically anything with the suspension.

Or so you can match every other lowered VR4 in Australia that looks like a pig sniffing for truffles or a cat on heat lol....

My front is 20mm lower than the rear.

I meant make sure the height at both of the fronts is the same, and the height at both the rears the same. Like do some measurements to make sure you don't end up with the Front Right 10mm lower than the Front Left :) - but that should go without saying

Peter I have only removed the rears but it took less than 5 minutes each, its so easy. The fronts look a little harder but not much. If you get 4 guys to do it, you can do like a pit stop and see if you can change all 4 corners in less than 10 minutes.

The reason why I've asked is because I've been quoted from $495 to $650 to fit, setup and do the wheel alignment.
I almost hung up on the guy that quoted the $650. I can't see why it would cost anywhere near that much. None of the places I called had done a Legnum before so I suppose they were covering there arses.

OMFG!

DIY + Wheel Alignment

Beer = $40
Wheel Alignment = up to $60

Total = $100!!!

It should take 2 blokes about an hour and a half to do the job.

Hence the BBQ and beers at my place.
Mind you I haven't cleared it with Mel yet. But it shouldn't be a problem.
The biggest problem will be keeping my boys out from under our feet.
Not sure how to setup the height, either do it on the car or off. The other question is will I need a spring retainer.

No spring compressors needed.

When you pull the stock gear out, offer it up to the coilovers, and adjust the coilovers about an inch or two shorter, then install.

Some fine tuning can be done on car, depends how easy the spring seat and base are to turn.

I installed mine by myself in a couple of hours. When you work out how to do one side, the other side takes half as long.

If you have pre-load adjustability, put about 10-15mm into the springs before you install. I have to pull mine out and add in some pre-load as I installed the coilovers at 'just captive' tension.

Also, C-Spanners aren't for adjusting height, they are for loosening and tightening the locking rings. Height adjustment is done by turning the base, or in height only coilovers, turning the bottom spring seat. ;)
