hello everyone,i want to convert my FWD,NA galant to a turbo,4WD. which one do you think is better for power,4G63 from evo or 6A13TT that you all use
?how about the drivetrain? and i've heard about a better weight distribution from using 4G63.....

I don't know how you would go about the 4WD but i would choose 4G63 over 6A13TT any day!

The 4G63 engine will probably be a bit easier to work with as there will be more room in the engine bay. The 6A13TT has a heavy block but fairly lightweight heads, I'm not too sure what the weight difference is.

I think there is an na 4G63 version of the 8G galants and legnum, so it shouldnt be too much of an effort getting a 4G63BT in there...

Be easier to get parts for the 4G63 too.. :)

What motor is in there currently?

If it the na v6, why not supercharge it? That would be my choice. :) Or even a supercharged 4G63.. Have seen that in a Lancer Coupe over her that one of my sisters very good mates owns...

wow....i did'nt know that...how about the evo's 4WD ?

the motor is 2.5L V6...perhaps 6A12?

about the supercharge,my friend told me that its too complicated because of mitsu's MAF(need to convert it to suit force induction).and its better to swap it, if the goal is for power, reliability and driveablity.(i'm looking for a better power and respond than my S15)

2.5 v6 would suggest a 6a13 na i'd have thought, the 6a12 is 2.0

Cheap and easily sourced aftermarket parts and plenty of experts who can make big power with them.... Perhaps not in Bali though haha :)

IMO its not BETTER as such, just easier in a lot of aspects.

Legnums and galants were available in:

6A13
4G93
4G94
4G64

No such 4G63 model. Though I dare say one of the above is close enough to share mounts etc. I believe it is the ST models that are the 4G93 AWD non turbo's.

4G63's were actually installed in UK and NZ new Galants. Rated at 98kw at 6000rpm and 175nm at 4500rpm.

Ferry already has a 6A13, and we know that it is possible to install a 6A13TT straight onto the gearbox (either auto or manual) into his car, so imho it is the easiest option. Engine + ECU + custom downpipes and he will be away. A few people in the UK, Netherlands and New Zealand have done exactly this. I also know of a car in NZ that was a 4G63 n/a (as mentioned above) that was converted to a 6A13TT.

The 4G63 conversion may require some mods, I really don't know. There are a few US people on the galant center that have installed 4G63's, their engine bay is a bit different to ours though, the suspension is greatly simplified and it is designed to take a 6G7x engine as well!

For the 4G63 vs 6A13TT - which is better topic, I suggest we take it to another thread to discuss the exact merits as we will end up way off topic with heated discussion :) This thread is about the ease of installing a 4G63 or 6A13TT into a 6A13 n/a Galant.

4g63 would be hell of alot easier. however the awd drive part will be much harder. you can import a zr4 which is basically a hatchback vr4. there was one for sale in sa for $7000 and like 60,000kms. good price. alternatively i have in the for sale thread, a 4g63 engine and evo3 gearbox listed for sale. good luck

i guess it's not hard to install a 4G63 (i'm not worrying about the cost..since the cost of labor here is so cheap :p) but what about the 4wd system? (i'm going to use evo's...perhaps from evo 6) is it match the dimension of galant?

anyway thanks for your help and info guys

The EVO rear subframe is quite different, you will want to go with equipment from a VR-4 or other 4wd 8G Galant/Legnum

Why not keep it FWD?

There are a few guys in the UK and Denmark who have done the 6A13TT into a fwd v6 car before fine. :)

i dont like the characteristic of FWD :banghead: beside the road in bali is not smooth....so i want to have 4WD traction to make it sticky

i wonder if its possible to modify evo's 4WD to suit galant....i'm willing to pay for that :p

I dare say if you're willing to adapt evo running gear into a Galant, then this discussion of what is easier is null and void as you seem to have enough cash.

But anyway, I'd take the 4G for tunability, 6A for ease of install.
