Im deciding wether or not to get a custom CAI made up for me tomorrow..
i bought my legnum wit a massive pod on it but with no heat shield or anything around it. It just sucks the hot air in off my engine..
there is no real cold air feed at all..
so iv booked it in for a service tomorrow and if i want they can/will make an aluminum box to go round it and some sort of piping or something going into it from the rear of the fog light vent..
will i get a noticeable increase in performance?
is it worth doing?

find a standard air box and intake pipe,
high performance panel in it,

better than a pod CAI or not, in a car with thee stock ecu,
dyno proven.

thanks..
im waiting to get a reflash tho..
if i get a reflash with the custom CAI will that turn out to be better than the stock CAI?
or should i just ask for the stock one back and not waste my money?

as long as you have some distance from the filter to the MAF, you should be alright... generally the MAF doesnt take well to any changes. As for filters... we had a dyno day early last year and with a standard air filter in the airbox vs no air filter in the airbox in the same car there was no difference in power.. aesthetically a pod looks far better imo. but you should have distance to make the MAF happy..

yes.

only 1 type of ecu can be reflashed in these cars, (and its from the facelift modle)
so not that straight forward either

Having an ECU flash will not correct the issue with a pod filter, as the problem is with the MAF sensor rather than the ECU.

It isn't the filter that is the problem either, it is the connection between the filter and the MAF. Having a straight pipe can improve the situation, but it doesn't fix it. You might be ok if you have a 4" or greater pipe attached to the MAF though, so long as pod doesn't cause excessive air disturbance.

In the end it comes down to your personal preference, however the fact is this (assuming standard MAF sensor) -
You might get a pod to work ok, it might not excessively over-fuel and it might get reasonable dyno figures. But the person next to you who has the same mods but a standard intake, will do better... If that would annoy you, don't get a pod filter.
