Hi All, new to the VR4 world I'm still learning more and more about the cars everyday. I have a 96 Legnum VR4 and bought it 4-5 months ago. Im absolutely loving it but the AYC light has just come on. I understand that it may be the pressure switch or pump but am finding it a little hard to find someone to read the computer.
Does anyone know of someone in the South-western Sydney area that can help?

You should do a AYC fluid flush as well dude.

Your not around hurstville are you. I've seen a silver series one a couple of times around my area.

Yeh i thought it prob needs one but not having done one before, i am trying to find out what i can.

Im over at Camden

When does it come on, as soon as you start the car and never goes off, or after the car has been on for a little while?

You have a how to PM Dando, might shed some light on what your after, there is a wealth of info on the AYC if you do a little digging around the site, if your unsure wack up the question and we'll see what we can do to help...

by the way...... Welcome to OzVR4, another NSW member....

Thanx for the info!
Nearly everything was flashing - AYC code 33, do you know if a steering sensor is common and/or easy to fix?

ABS code 24

Trans light was constantly flashing, what does this mean?

I'm pretty sure constant flash is "No Errors" is the Neatral N flashing Green or Red

AYC 33 Steer Sensor (ST-N) system
ABS 24 Wheel-Speed Sensor (RL) System

As for the above 33 and 24 codes, could be as simple as mismatched tyres, but I'm sure the Tech Guru's will jump in here........ with what these codes will be relating too -------- Brad-Gly???????

Answering Bradc's questions will help him to identify possible reasons

33 - I would reset the ecu and see if it comes back straight away.

24 - Check the ABS ring on that wheel and see if it has any chipped or missing teeth

the lights only come on when the car is in motion, sometimes the 3 green AYC bars all turn on when you start driving and once you get around the 100km/h mark they turn off one by one, then when you drop back down in speed they turn back on,
and sometimes the red AYC light just comes on.

I'd start with brad's suggestions, disconnect the battery and whilst disconnected hit the brakes or turn the lights on, then re connect the battery.

Then have a look at the ABS ring on the Left Rear wheel, I can post up a pic of what the ring looks like if that helps??

This picture is of the front passenger wheel, but the teeth on the ABS ring directly opposing ABS sensor can be seen. I have pictures of the rears but on a PC thats power-supply karked it over the weekend. Just incase you weren't sure of what to look for..... Ignore text its relates to a "How To" yet to be published - I'm slack....

Ahh yep. First of all, check that all of your tyres are the same brand, model, size and treadwear. Make sure they have the same air pressure all round, although you can run 2-3psi more at the front.

Then check the ABS rings.

Basically the car thinks there is something wrong with the Rear Left wheel.

Well, it seamed to have worked, the AYC is back to normal and checked the flashing codes and is just constantly flashing like the trans light!

I'll have to check the ABS ring tomorrow coz its still flashing code 24.

Thanks for the help!

Checked all the things you said, tyres, abs rings, everything. All looked ok and abs light doesn't come on so can't be anything too major!

Dando,

I would still make it a priority to change and flush the AYC system, its pretty easy to do, really a must do item when you get a VR4 with AYC.....
