Hi Guys,
new to this forum, but not forums, been a member of OzLib and RSLib for nearly 3 years.

My current ride is a Gen3 Subaru Liberty manual GTB (twin turbo), that I converted myself from an auto Heritage. I've done no major mods to it, apart from:
- parallel fuel rails
- CAI
- Ported Exhaust Change Valve (subaru has a sequential system)
- Ported Wastegate

I'm thinking about selling my ride as I can get about 24K for it and getting a Legnum and putting the difference towards a house deposit.

I've looked around and have found cars similar to what I'm after for 13K.

I'm after the following:
- Manual
- Full Black leather interior
- Preferably dark blue (dark green or black are second choices, maybe white, but no other colours)
- Possibly a sunroof
Could you guys suggest a model code that I should start chasing

i've searched and read through the forum, but haven't found a thread that gives a good buyers guide, or powerup path. The kind of information i'm after is:
- Mods to perform to maximise handling
- Mods to perform to maximise braking (how easy is it to run a full set of EVO brembo's and what rims are needed for them to be fitted up?
- Preventative mods (what should I change out so that I can safely start to wind up the boost). For a turbo Liberty/Impreza I'd say the following (but I don't know the specifics of the VR4 engine problems)
- Walbro GS342 fuel pump
- Parallel Fuel Rail conversion
- Remove resonator
- Coilpacks (on an RS Lib)

I figure the standard powerups on a turbo would count like:
- 3" TBE
- FMIC
- CAI
but there doesn't seem to be threads listed for this kind of stuff.

What is the OEM VR4 air filter like. Has anyone done any formal testing on these? For a Liberty/WRX best bet is keep OEM filter and run a CAI, no performance gain (only noise) to be had by a POD, and most people install them unshielded which means they're worse of as the intake air is hotter.

Cheers
Darryl

Welcome to the club Darryl.
Would love to see some pics of the Liberty.
Selling it and moving onto a Legnum would be a great idea. Like you mentioned, you will have some money left if you import one and that could come in handy for a house deposit. What more could you want, a house and a Legnum sitting in your drive way :)

Welcome Darryl,

First of all for your spec:

There is no such spec unfortunately. The only cars with Black Leather are "Car of The Year" Models (like mine) produced in 1997, and these were all auto and white. So if you can get by without the Black leather, then its simply a matter of waiting for a manual to come up in the right colour. However be prepared for a long wait for an exact combination you want.

Second for the modification path, have a look at the Questions/index thread here:

You'll find 90% of your questions answered in the threads linked from there. If not, ask bradc! LOL

Again welcome

Facelift Manual 400hp VR-4 Legnum
What Lee said ^

Sunroofs turn up at random on 10-20% of the cars, and manuals are about 20-30% of the cars. Now as for the black leather, you're best to buy an interior from japan or NZ, or buy a COTY car and swap the interior with your car.

EVO Brembo's fit straight onto facelift Legnums, and NOT onto prefacelift Legnums. Best mods for handling are either lowering springs or full coil overs. You can also get uprated anti roll bars for them.

The rest of the mods you mention are a good solid list to get the car started, upping the boost is the easiest way to get power.

Although understand that the stock ECU will run the AFR rich, so if you want real performance gains at maximum efficiency (including dollar value) you'll want FMIC, hard pipes, cat-back exhaust, upgraded fuel pump and piggy-back ECU. Full ECU replacement is a good option also, as are dumps and turbos, the sky's the limit really. But that first basic list will get you a hell of an improvement, and better fuel economy than stock too!

PS welcome to the site Darryl :)
