Dob-in to DECC!!!

Well, the inevitable has happened. Someone has dob-in to DECC about my exhaust being loud and so now I have to rectify it before due date 13/03/09.

DECC needs my car to be tested for emissions and rev the engine to 4125rpm it has to be 90dB which I am dead sure that my RS-R exhaust is way above that limit and got a couple more questions:

Car has EBC installed, should I leave it on or hide it?

What should I do about my R2D2 BOV which was connected to aftermarket IC piping? What needs to be done so it cannot vent?

Also, to my fellow Sydney siders if they have spare OEM muffler/exhaust that I could borrow or buy it? Please let me know.

I am gonna drop by at the exhaust shop tomorrow to get tested on how loud it is.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thats super uncool man....

Hide the EBC but i'm sure it'd be fine anyway. Put your plumb back BOV back on or if you binned it, just borrow someones as a VTA WILL NOT pass

As for the exhaust, make sure you BOOST it to 4K rpm as the turbo spool will minimise the firing sound making it quieter. I heard your car and it couldn't possibly be more than 90! You should hear my neighbor if you think thats loud!

I still love your muffler nonetheless. Can you put a muffler silencer in there or are they smart enough to check for one ?

Dawso - Thanks! I might have to hide the gauge and the control unit probably hide it underneath the steering column.

I think I am still runing under 8psi on low boost which is set at the mo so you think turning it down around 6.5 or 7psi is ok?

I have already thrown my old BOV so gotta ask dimi if he still have his.

Brad - I can put a silencer IF I can find one that fits and YES, they are smart enough to check that and if a silencer is fitted, they want to get it fixed weld so it cannot remove again (This is second time that I got caught with loud exhaust LOL)

That'd be without a silencer Gorgs.

That's the muffler I had earmarked to put in my car, & I was going to install something like a pull-release valve that is fixed in the muffler & it's wired to a lever near the driver's seat. You can use the lever to control the loudness of the muffler.
I know the dB readings from rhdjapan are too loud for our laws, hence I was looking that up.

you won't get boost revving the engine in neutral, there is no load to build boost with.

the turbo fins themselves muffle exhaust sound anyway.

Silencer won't pass. You can't have anything removable in there.

If it is just a noise test that you need to do, why worry about the BOV?

Because it will cause more trouble as VTA BOV are purely illegal in NSW, having said that, I don't want to have more troubles since I got done for noise test only.

They put those silencer plugs in bike exhausts and it seems ot be legal, it just reduces the diamter at the exit and is normally held in by a small screw.

Nothing yet as my car was booked for tomorrow at 12pm. I'll update then after that.

I've been doing some testing revving my engine up to 4300rpm to see if my BOV goes off but it doesn't. So I am thinking I don't have to placed my OEM BOV back but I am still having a second thought.
