Hi All, Please Help, 2001 Galant

When driving in any gear, there is a grinding noise, like two bits of metal are touching and rubbing together, and making a whining noise.
Apon de-acceleration noise, first noises stops to change to sound like the tail shaft is hitting the exhaust, which it is not.
Took to my mechanic, put up on a hoist look for what it might be, and can't find anything, check the obvious.

Does not have any noise in reverse.

Just had 100k service new belts, seals, pulleys and good oils all round etc

Can anyone help or has had the same problem?

Cheers
Copey

Check perhaps a heat shield isn't rubbing/loose?

Does it change with clutch in?

A common one is the metal stone sheild around the driveshaft yolk on the back of the transfer case comes loose and can rub on the yolk under certain conditions.
