DVD player question

I installed my Addzest TV & DVD today, and playing around with it I have found that the DVD player (a stand-alone unit) will only play certain DVDs. It seems like only NTSC DVDs will play. At first I thought it was a regional thing, but I tried a Region 0 DVD and it would not play. It just displays a message in Japanese on the screen.

Do you think I'm on the money with the PAL/NTSC thing, or is it something else?

I'm loving the unit so hopefully I can get this little problem sorted out and I'll be good to go!

japan is region 2 and the video format is NTSC. sort both of those and it will work.
better off bin the thing and get something local.

Buy something that is NTSC/PAL compatible.
