So some stuff arrived in the mail today :)

Other thing is I realised the other ECU is a plastic cased H8, not a 7201. Anyone in Sydney got a 7201 I can borrow/have/potentially break?

Hey Steve,

Have you had a go with trying to read the H8 using MMCFlash set to 7202? Interested to see if this works.

Cheers
Pierre

Well maybe, thanks for the offer, I'm hoping to test before that though. If no one in Sydney has one, I might just have to take mchieff up on his offer.

does this mean I can flash my 7201 ecu using my 1.3u cable?

I think not. You still use the openport 2.0, we can try in a couple of weeks if you like though.

Also, thanks to mchieff for posting me your 7201, I'll have a go with it and the H8 on the weekend. Hopefully the definitions are something similar to 7202/7203, still shouldn't take long to find everything assuming the values are similar to 7202/7203

From memory the plastic h8s were the ecu that came in the late 97 to 98 cars. These just flashed the same as the 7202s. On the other hand I could be mistaken

The difference between the openport 1.3 and 2.0 was the ability to drive the init trig sequence (18v pulse iirc) for fashing, the 2.0 was able to however the 1.3 wasn't capable of this. The later evo ECUs generated this internally, which is why you can flash evo 789 on op1.3

Good work on this.

Yes the H8 was 7202 architecture but ECUflash with OP2.0 has never been able to flash them to my knowledge unless all the ones I have seen have been locked or something but that would be a lot of coincidence.

OK so a bit of news (good news)

My H8 ECU could not be flashed with ECU flash, I double checked this today, could not read or write to/from the ECU in any way.

Today the H8 was successfully reflashed with MMCFlash and calling the ECU a 7202 as we all suspected.

The ECU ID was an EM2004 and the definitions as far as I could see matched the 7202/03 tables for EM2004 ECU's. This is great news as it means we don't have to develop brand new definitions for H8 ECU's.

I first dropped at 2500RPM limit on and that worked.

Then dropped one of my 7202 tuned maps on and that worked also.

Then I dropped the latest maps I'm using in my car including the kenneth mods and they work too. So I think this means a H8 is slightly more desireable than a 7201 a I don't think you can change the ROM on a 7201 to 7202/03 code (I could be wrong on this)....

The interface is a little slow, taking about 100secs to flash vs 10secs for ECUFlash but I'm sure we can all live with that (although a 512k ecu would probably start being frustrating if the time is proportional to file size).

Dennis's 7201 hasn't arrived as yet to test but Pierre has tested this already so that should be fine.

So anyone who has a H8 ECU can now be a happy camper!

Just a question I know has been wondered about before but I wonder now if you can say weather the mapping is the same on plf manual and autos?
I have read on here that it is thought to be only a difference in the boost levels that alters the power figures. I hope I haven't missed the answer to this somewhere else.

Can't say for sure yet as i haven't looked at a 7201 ROM yet. I did look at the H8 though with exactly that thought process and it was identical to 7202/03.

The H8 I looked at had an auto ROM on it, which is weird given it came from a manual car....

The BDEL and WGDC tables are different between manual and auto in pfl ECU's.

Thanks Pierre, pfl I assume you mean pfl with 7201's? I've seen plenty of 7202 prefacelifts all with the same tables as FL. Again the H8 I looked at yesterday was from a pfl, that said even though it had EM2428 code on it which I have only seen in auto's previously it was from a manual car so I don't know if the ECU had been changed already.

The EM2004 and 5 roms I pulled from my pre facelift 7202's all have different Desired Engine Load High Octane 1 and 2 tables and Wastegate Duty Cycle High Octane 1 and 2 tables. It is my understanding that the 1 and 2 tables are related to manual and auto.

If what you say is correct then I would say all Auto's run less boost than all manuals, but I haven't tested which table is used, I thought Kenneth said they were the same pointers as the two Hi octane fuel and ignition tables which someone else thought was ac on vs ac off.

Something else to check I guess....
