Hey all,

I've been lurking around for a while and reading up on Legnums and what to look for when going out having a look at them. I've wanted a Legnum for a few years, but paying for food and rent was a bigger issue while at uni ;). Now that I've graduated I've decided to upgrade from the old TR magna to something that can accelerate and doesn't need a new set of piston rings...

Anyhow, I just brought Peter D's white 2001 Legnum and drove it back from Brissy lol:D. Would have put it on a transporter, but I wanted to take the rims and other bits and pieces with me. It was a pretty long, but relatively uneventful trip and got about 10L/100 which wasn't too bad. Car cruised really well, although had to keep an eye out for potholes and bumps, some of the sections through Queensland and northern NSW were shocking. More a series of pothole with a dash of asphalt thrown in to keep it interesting.... Was an awesome feeling knowing I didn't need a massive wind up to accelerate past trucks/caravans though hahaha.

Now I've just got the task of getting it as close to stock as possible over the next weekend or so to try and get through Regency and get it registered in my name over here. At least I still have the Magna to kick around in so I don't need to rush the process. On that note, does anyone in SA have a spare rear strut I could borrow? Peter had the other 3 but one of them was damaged when it was removed. Also, anyone got any tips for getting through Regency?

Considering the k's on it as well, I figure I'll also be doing the timing belt soonish while I have the extra runabout. May even do a bit of preventative maintenance and get to the rear main and torque converter seals and check the transmission wave spring... Good thing I enjoy getting my hands dirty.

Well I think that's all for now. Loving the new car, got so much damn grip and torque. :D

Hi Tom, glad to see you got home in one piece, hope you enjoy the car as much as Pete did. Congrats again. Cheers Mel

Welcome Tommo!

For stock rear struts, put a thread in the SA section, I'm sure someone who has upgraded to coilovers can help you.
Also, any plans for further modifications?

Welcome Tommo. Good to see you did your homework before buying the car ;)

Welcome! Sounds like the roads up there are maybe even worse than in SA, I didn't think that would be possible >.<
Definitely a step in the right direction from the TR Magna haha you will love it.

Don't freak out about Regency. You only need an ID check, it isn't Regency inspection station, it is around the corner from them. Just make the car looks relatively stock and make sure the numbers match the rego sticker and you'll be fine. They will only go hard on you if it i obviously defectable ie coilies, BOV, no AFM, and dark tints.
They might pull you up on the tints actually, looks dark in the picture.

AFAIK 35% is a smidge past a legal tint, as if they're being picky I think you need 70% luminous transmittance (LT) to be called legal. Guess it depends on what the 35% is actually referring to, but if it is the LT grade then yeah. For the rear windows its something like 35% LT so they'd have to pretty much be blacked out before they would bother checking. Not sure about the fronts.

All the cars I have taken through they have asked me to remove the tints, some were obviously dark, others weren't. But every time, 8 in total, they have asked me to de-tint....

Hi all. Yeah heaps happy with it, it's a completely different car to the old magna hahaha. I tried to put 98 in it, but a couple of the fuel stops only had 95 so didn't really have much choice in the matter...

Yeah some sections of the highways were heaps bad. Had to do a bit of dodging to make sure I didn't bottom out. It's pretty disgraceful that these are our national highways... I've seen better maintained dirt roads.

Welcome Tommo!

I'll definitely be doing some mods down the path but for the short term I'm gonna just enjoy driving a car that doesn't require constant maintenance:rolleyes:.

With the tint it's looking like I might take it off of the front windows as some other guys at work have brought cars over from interstate recently and have had issues with it. It's pretty frustrating, as it looks awesome at the moment. The pearl white paint makes the windows look even darker:cool:

tommo, we've got pretty identical stories, i bought my leggy from a fella outta brissy...at 8pm on a sat. night and drove it back to the central coast, nsw. got home at 4:30am....epic drive, got 10L/100k as well. stoked!
hectic trip to SA tho...far out, that's way more epic! and yea, those potholes are a pain....

sure your loving your leggy as much as i am lovin mine. welcome!

I can assure you that the tiniting on the front windows are legal (in Queensland) as I especially asked my mate to use the darkest legal tint available, because I didn't want to have to remove it if I got pulled over.

I'm glad your enjoying my old ride. Treat her nice and she'll take you places. Did you work out the head unit. What do you think of the sound system. I thought it was pretty good.

I believe Transport SA have some retarded rule that if you're car hasn't been registered in SA before it can't have any tint at all...

Well got the new car rego'd on Friday of last week. Big thanks to Mathew (ECfiveA) for the rear strut so that I could sway out the coilovers. The ID inspection wasn't much of a hassle at all, although that was probably because I was last in line and the dude checking my car just wanted to go home...

Managed to get through with the tint, he mentioned that it was probably too dark and that I would get done by the cops, but that was it. Meh, I'll deal with that hurdle if it comes... Especially since the car looks sweet as with the dark front tint on it :-)
