Hello I am soon to go through a break in proccess with my rebuilt motor I am curious what people have used for break in oil?
Is there any recommendations? I was going to use driven 5w30.

Any info would be great thanks!

I'll take a look is there a reason to go with the 15w40 over the 5w30?

Iirc the theory is thicker oil helps get rings/cams/bearing surfaces lapped/set right while “grabbing” all the schmutz and assembly lube out of contact surfaces/galleries. Be sure to have your post-breakin oil and fresh filter ready.

I use Kendall GT-1 conventional 20w-50.. but mostly because o have cases on hand for the Mini.

Okay sounds good i am not to sure if i can get that oil shipped here, i emailed them, i think if I can't my next try would be motul 10w40 break in oil! Thanka for the help and information much appreciated!

Just grab the motul if it's available.

Do you recommend doing the first couple oil changes with it juat the first one then go to like a motul 5w30 synthetic?

I would start with looking at this type of oil for the break in period. See what others on the forum recommend at well.

I seen they got a new one mineral oil which was the one I was going to get!

The reason most run in oils are mineral is the synthetic stuff can be "too slippery" i.e the film strength is too strong so the rings never get a chance to bed in on the cylinder walls.
Its soely for ring bed in as ring seal is 100% he most important part of an engines performance

Older run in oils had ZDDP zinc additive also which helps lubricate the flat tappet cam followers as woth heavy valve springs on old pushrod V8s the cam lobe and lifter face is highly stressed and it was prone to failure during run in. But this isnt relevant for most modern engines as they are all roller rocker cam followers.

I ended up picking up the 10w40 motul shops around here recommended it, how many oil changes of this should I use I bought enough for 2 oil changes?

Awsome thanks everyone for your recommendation and help! Much appreciated will update when the car is running!

Thanks for all your guys help and info, but I think the car is still fucked, fired up nice ran for moments until I seen a leak. Shut it off fixed the leak fired it back up to a nice knock/slapping noise!

How big of a leak was it? No good mate, sending positive vibes your way as I know the pain.

Definitely knock...?
