Engine dies after cornering

It happened now the third time that the engine seems to die (felt like a fuel cut) after going around a 70-80° corner with 50-60km/h... within the next second everything is fine again and I can push again. It always appeared when I was down to 10-20l left in the tank, so I thought the engine didn't get any fuel because the fuel was at the opposite site from the fuel pump or something... but it appeared now twice going left and once going right :-(

Filled the tank up yesterday and pushed it around corners this morning... everything works fine.

AYC should 2 lights when it died...

Anyone got an idea what it could be? Could it be the fuel issue?

Its fuel surge Tom, get it during track days when I get below 1/4 tank !!

I agree sounds like fuel surge, need a surge tank to get rid of it. Or just drive slower lol.

Why didn't I ask you straight away Kat ;-)

Thanks!

Anything we can do about it? (beside never drive below 1/4 of a tank :D

Thanks Matt ;-)

yeah sounds like a fuel issue. doubtful it would be a fuel filter or fuel pump issue, as u would have constant problems, not when turning. try an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator if u can.

That I'm not sure about Tom, maybe a fuel surge tank but don't ask me how, I'm sure some of our guru's will be able to give you a definitive answer on this.

The first time it happened to me, I thought ow no, I've broken my baby.....

I've got an aftermarket pump and regulator and have never had fuel surge (not sure if I've ever run the tank really low on the track though...). You can get both for under $500.

Yep we all had it at the trackday we did.

Mind you I was getting it breaking and turning in at the end of the straight with all 4 squealing. Felt like the car had stalled... wasn't pleasant.

I'd be surpised if you didn't get it anyway Lee. It would happen when the tank is empty because under those forces the fuel all pushes to the front left of the tank leaving the fuel pump sucking air right?

I imagine the only way around it would be to add a surge tank, which is a mini tank after your fuel tank which wont suffer the same problem. Don't they run these in race cars?

a baffled main fuel with low point collector and big external pumps will stop this

or go the surge tank route, but that involves a fair amount of work and a fuel system in your boot

Brad at what point have you found fuelling issues when taking your car to the track? I think it's safe to say you have the most experience with your car in extreme cornering conditions, both with regularity and highest speeds...

I have a theory but first I have the following questions Tom:

1. Are you breaking tracking at any point?
2. Is it an auto?
3. Do you have a TCL switch below the fog light switch?
4. Is there a white vacuum solenoid canister on the firewall?

I was very low on fuel when it happened. Wasn't even looking at the dash I was so busy wrestling it round the circuit.

1. Are you breaking tracking at any point? Not that I'm aware of  (to be honest I don't know what you mean with breaking tracking)
2. Is it an auto? YES
3. Do you have a TCL switch below the fog light switch? NO
4. Is there a white vacuum solenoid canister on the firewall? Haven't seen any white canisters, does this black one on the firewall count? From my memory this thing was installed to match Australian emission regulations?!

Sorry, I meant breaking traction. Ok my theory is out the window. Have you got an aftermarket fuel pump?

Nope... No engine mods at all (instead of boost controller and hard piping). We live in a country with a speed limit of 110 km/h

I think the first solutions were spot on... and a few more have the same problem with a tank <1/4 full. Will see what I can do about it!

Keep your tank full?! :)

duno what u make of this.. but, i was driving thru the hills one nite dropping a friend home with only 1/4 of a tank, prob less. mind u this was after a nite out at the local tav and he had a few drinks, so his estimates to where his house was, was a little under estimated. anyway it was late with no traffic so was giving it a bit. get to his and my petrol light comes on, and no petrol stations for at least 50 km/h. i somewhat baby it home and make it. however never got fuel surge, and some of the hills had pretty tight corners with dips and elevations. weird.
