A mate and myself have been saying for quite some time that we'd like to get down to get down one night for some 1/4 mile runs. He's also got a B4 liberty, so it'd be an interesting race.

We're looking at heading down one Friday night when they have the open entry night (end of each month). I was wondering whether some other people would be interested as well? Looking at hopefully next month.

We're both keen no matter what but could make a bit of a meet out of it... Open for opinions etc

Last time I went to WSID:

:(

I'd love to go again, but there's still too much to sort out with my car. It's $165 per tow trip for me!!

As soon as it's sorted, I'll head back out as I know what I did wrong last time (ie: I was an idiot!)

Oh no. What did you break? Well you never know, I don't really have the funds this month as I'm getting a few things fixed myself. But maybe next month if your car is fixed?

Hey Paul I thought that's when your diff broke at MEEK ?

I'd buy a share in a tow-truck if I were you mate

sounds like fun, but my car has had religious monthly trips to the shop lately as it is..............

Lol, wimps..... I'd be keen pending the weekend yopu guys plan to go. Its a long way from Tamworth :(

Dawso, you're not going anywhere until we go on this cruise that you're meant to planning for us!
Come on dude it's not like you're busy. You're not married & you work in IT so you have plenty of time to plan it in between telling people to reboot their PCs lol.. :p

Nah, that wasn't as expensive...still sucked as much though!
I thought I got a share when I paid for the tow!? lol

I broke this:

This is the smaller hollow shaft going from the gearbox into the x-fer case.

Caused from repeated high rpm hard launches. :( Which is not the way to get these things off the line anyway, I have since worked out ;)

So... what is the best/quickest/safest way to get off the line at a drag meet?

Ewww, you did well! How hard were you revving it for that? 5000rpm?

I've been practicing launches and I've been getting off the line quite well revving it to only about 3000-3500rpm. Don't do them very often though because I don't want to do what you did haha.

Let the clutch absorb some of the lauch pressure or you will slip the clutch/bog down/break something.... 5k + clutch dump won't get you away as fast as 4k + "quickish" clutch release

I figured out the perfect clutch point to take off really quickly in the VR4 without burning or grinding anything, straight on boost fast launch and no clutch dumping haha.. Worked really well for me against others! Hehe

Pretty much what everyone else has said in the thread. There needs to be a tiny bit of 'slip' or take-up with the drivetrain components so they're not going from 0 to 100% torque in 1/100th of a second. That will just make things break.

I found around 3.5-4k was good on the street, haven't been back to WSID to work out what is good there. My 14.2 time was done with a slip style start at around 4k I think...I can't really remember because they didn't tell us it was pro-tree (ie: as soon as you're both staged it was one light, then go. Not the usual count down), so I was expecting it to count down and then it all went green and I went 'holy shit!' and just went on instinct.

I spent the next 6 runs trying to figure out what the hell I did and only got worse lol I'm pretty confident I've worked it out now.

My 'tow truck' run was a launch at 6k, so yes I was stupid! But I also believe it was the cumulative effect of lots of high rpm launches over time, again stupid.

Dont just dump, cannot stress this enough lol. As everyone is saying a quick 4k slip out is prob the safest option. I'd say dumps are the quickest way off the line but will cost you in spare parts and tow trips.

Matt, my 'dump' runs were actually slower than the slip run due to wheelspin (believe it or not). I have them on video somewhere too.

Interested in the WISD idea depending on the date, also whats peoples advice for launch in the auto box?

Digging up my old thread.

I'm going down to the WSID this wednesday night (23rd) to have a run. Some of my friends cars who are attending include FPV Typhoon (310rwkw) and AE86 turbo sprinter (not aloud to tell figures aparently) and ofcourse my car.

Anyone interested? Be good to meet some people down there.
