So I've just been served a vehicle test notice saying that my car is excessively noisy, has any one here been to any of the EPA approved testers and or recommend somewhere to take it??

Cheers

PM Gorgath. He had to have his done in NSW. Not sure what the rules are like down there in Mexico.

I've had my older VR-4 done before. All the places are pretty much the same- i.e NO leniency. There's one on Melville Rd, Brunswick West- that's the one I took it to. I guess it depends where you're located.

Time for a stock exhaust perhaps? Varex even?

he he....did my good old friends from DECC got your arse too? LOL

Easy and Simple, put your vehicle back to stock form, i mean in real stock form such as returning your stock IC, removing your boost controller, stock exhaust. but for me, I just hid my boost controller made my muffler as bolt-on so I can return it back whenever I like. DECC/EPA should have given you a list of shops that is EPA certified, if you take your car to just any shops, EPA will not acknoledge it.

Check this threads of mine about EPA/DECC.

Goodluck

how would IC effect an EPA test? it doesn't make the car louder or produce more emissions

true that IC will not make your car louder but it will increase emissions. I went two trips to RTA Botany Pit to run my car for emission test (IM240 test with OEM IC and AM IC) and found that having a larger IC does increase emissions such a hydrocarbon (HC) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).

The funny thing about this is, to compensate these emissions and to stay below the legal limit is mod your car. I read somewhere in SAU that a guy passed on emissions and passed the EPA becuase of his mods.

If they take you in for for a full EPA compliance than everything has to turn back to stock! In he's case, he only needs to be 89db or less @4300 on his exhaust!

There's a difference between a noise test and an emissions test! If you've been done for noise just swap to a stock exhaust, pass the test, put your good exhaust back on, rinse and repeat.

true to the above statements but then again, this is really depends on the mechanic who is doing the inpections and tests. If he is lenient and doesn't bother him to expect accordingly on what is on the workbook then yeh, you'll be fine. But if it happens that he will follow by the books and whats on his checklist, then goodluck. Let hope that the procedures are not the same as NSW.

Well I have been in this morning to get the noise test done on the car, as stated the legal limit here in Vic is 90db my car came in at a startling 78db at 3200rpm, he couldn't find my car in the list so just did the default test, however I asked him to go a little higher in the rev range to see if it would break the limit the most it got to was 85.
So all in all a good day, so happy.

Lucky!

A mate of mine a couple of days ago got defected for the Stock plumb back BOV in his Evo 8... by Project Taipan some police modified car initiative?

They are a major fail squad it seems.
