unfortunately.. the only thing you can do is.. REBUILD.. cause it'll just get worse.. shop around in your area who specializes in repairing auto transmission..

Sorry Tego, but like the others have said, its time for a rebuild. But, the good news is that your box will be heaps stronger afterwards.

Better to get onto it now, than waiting for it to stop working at all.

so its a waiting game then

I have never EVER seen bits like that from a working auto trans, why not be proactive and get that trans rebuilt now vs holding off and letting that trans failure occur on a rainy night when you are miles from home and no cellular signal?? If you have kids do you really want them in the vehicle?

My center diff locked up at around 80 km/h...lockin both rear wheels, I was able to do a controlled drift to the side of the highway. Do you really want to expose yourself to that?? I dont and it happened to me.

If a tiny shard of that broken piece goes into your valve body you can kiss your transmission goodbye. I just had mine done, here are the costs associated for a MINIMUM REPAIR (The rest of my box was pristine so I was told I was wasting my time to do the rest)

I just went over the bill for the transmission and it isn't terribly detailed (As I was told what was done and what I was charged for it didn't really matter) so I can give you a what was done and a total but thats it unfortunately.

Reco torque converter
Uprated wave rings
New clutch pack frictions
GSR kit
"Other nessecary parts" (Screws and nuts and bits and pieces)
10L SPIII ATF Fluid
12 hours labour (I threw some extras bits for him to do bringing up the total time for completion)
Fuel required (20L)

Total cost - $1565

Its not what you know, its who apparently ;)

And that was through a reputable workshop as well :D

*hugs his manual*

Dawso, do you have the part numbers for the stronger wave springs?

Unfortunately no..... I've been saying I will get them for nearly 12 months now haha, still haven't :(

Dawso, I think you have a mission to complete..... otherwise Tex might come a knocking at your back door

damn thats nasty, how many km's have these auto box's done ?

damn lucky mines manual as well tom

Dawso, if you can give me the list of updated/strengthened parts and tell me if they're out of a different car (evo-fto...etc) i might look them up in ASA and then we'll all be enlightened????? if i have time.... unless you have ASA, then get to it please

Hey Kat, all I know is that the bits that snap are a common fault, and there is a kit to fix and strengthen the fault.

Try MR534166 Kat.... let me know what it tells you :)

I don't have CAPS lol, i'm lazy and don't need 1000 part number questions from other members :P

Is it just me or is the majority of stuffed autos from later model EC5's? I know the PFL is lower HP.

Maybe i am just kidding myself..
