Hi NSW peoples,

Dave (qball) was very helpful with this but I am posting up on here as well anyways (sorry Dave)

My Super should be coming down next week to the TOLL depot in Sydney. What do I do from there ? How do I get from the depot & get it road-registered?

Go to RTA and get a temp permit ($36) then you can drive it to Blue Slip Inspection Station ($120) then get a green slip (?????) then hit the RTA with all your Documentation (Datars/Raws/Purchase Receipt) and fork over the rego fee+plates fee+stampduty

Then tear up the tarmac....... wahoo for Brad

Do you know what you need to tell the RTA in order to get the temp permit ? Is it issued on the spot or you have to wait for it ?

tear up the tarmac....... wahoo for Brad

Hmm... not quite tear up. This is a Super remember. Kid gloves treatment for quite some time. Until I mod the bejesus out of it & paint it ;)

Take all the documentation with you and it will be issued on the spot (dot the "i" and cross the "t", they'll want all the cars numbers and I believe they only give a 7 day permit maximum that is only for use to get the car home and to inspection station and registry, they won't issue any plates with the permit and every copper that see you with no plates will pull you over and want to see all the documentation.... its pretty straight forward

So it's valid for 7 days from date of issue ?

That's the important part I was after.

I'm going to have move heaven & earth to try & fit this in with my work.

Or spill the beans to my family ...

Got this from the RTA website ;

Get rego for an imported vehicle ;

* When the vehicle arrives in the country, it must be driven directly to a weighbridge, AIS or AUVIS station for an inspection for registration purposes. On this journey it is exempt from registration, but must not stop anywhere or be taken home (except on a trailer).
- So, does this need to be done if the car has been complied in QLD? Also the wording means that you can drive the car to the weighstation, but not from it?

What you need to provide:

* A certificate from an RTA-approved Engineering Signatory, to confirm that the vehicle meets Australian standards.
* A Vehicle Import Approval from the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
* A weighbridge ticket.

Plus:

* Proof of your identity, or, if you're registering the vehicle in the name of a company or organisation, proof that the company or organisation is a legal entity.
* Proof of entitlement to register the vehicle.
Proof of your residential address in NSW.
* A hard copy green slip or CTP Policy Receipt with the number plate section blank (except for trailers). The period of cover must be 12 months for light vehicles.
* A blue slip from an Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station (AUVIS).
* A completed Application for Registration form
* All vehicles presented for registration (including interstate and imported vehicles) may need to be inspected by the RTA's Vehicle Identification Inspection Unit (VIIU). There is an additional fee for this inspection. If you vehicle needs a VIIU inspection, you will be notified at the time of registration.

What you need to pay:

* Registration fees.
* Stamp duty.
* Number plate fees.
* Inspection fee (the blue slip).
* Vehicle identification inspection fee.
* CTP insurance premium (the green slip).

I believe that the Vehicle Identification Inspection is done by the Blue slip providor, I'll make a phone call with a contact in the RTA and confirm this.

Driven to weighbridge, AIS or AUVIS (this is the blueslip inspection station) the weight will be stated on RAWS certificate.......

Brad did you import this or was this done by a broker???? (IE was it imported as personal import??)

Gone through Iron Chef.

Car is being complied up in QLD, then is being freighted down to the TOLL depot in Sydney.

Hence I'm curious what I need to do after that to get it on the road.

I know someone who's a manager in the RTA too, but I can't get a hold of them ATM.

OK, let me know if you cant raise them, I have 24hour access to my contact

woohoo! go Brad! Another Super-VR4! You just couldn't resist after seeing mine, could ya? silver, or red?? Can't wait to see it!

Brad, I picked up my VR-4 from the same Toll depot you'll be collecting yours from.
I didn't get a permit for mine.
Basically, I went to the depot, signed the papers, got in the car, drove it to the Shell petrol station close by, then drove it home.

The following day, I took the car to get a blue slip inspection done, paid the $120 then I drove it to Burwood Plaza, parked it and paid for the insurance at NRMA then went to RTA across the road, paid for the Green Slip and Rego, they handed the plates over the counter (after giving me a lecture about not buying Australian-made cars and high-performance import vehicles being " too dangerous") then that was it. It was on the road.

Don't forget to bring a jerry can full of 98RON.
You don't need to bring a jump starter, the Toll depot will jump start it for you :)

Also don't worry about police - they won't nab you for driving without plates if you're collecting your vehicle or taking it to get rego done.

Nope couldn't resist Alan !! It's silver stock, but I will eventually respray it red like yours !!

We'll need to have a Super mini-meet hehe.

P.S. Keep some time spare on Saturday 4th April. Should be coming back from QLD through Coffs on that date :bigsmile:

When I got mine done, I had to do 3 trips to the RTA on different days because the people were hopeless and had no idea what they were doing, especially management.

Anyway, we drove the car from the importers place to the NRMA at Castle Hill.. Got a greenslip, and an insurance cover sheet (they wanted to charge me just over $8000 a year, I still have the papers!).. We then travelled to an RTA.. They had no idea what they were doing, we went to another one, and they still stuffed up.. But we got the temporary rego thing.. Was valid for 12 days..

The following day, went back to the RTA with all the papers again, this time they did their job, typed in a heap of crap, and handed the plates over the counter :)

I then went to Bunnings, got some brackets, and made numberplate holders. That's my story.

Sounds good Dimi thanks for the tip. I'm hoping to be in Sydney when the car comes down so I go get it myself & registered. Otherwise I will have to get a family member to do it for me.

So did you get stopped at all while without plates ? How close is the nearest petrol station ? I was going to granny it until filling it up with 98 at the nearest servo.

Oooohhh I am getting so excited. The car is complied in QLD & awaiting inspection !

You should be fine driving with no plates, no need to be scared.. just as long as you're not being a tool on the road, they most likely won't even bother.

I got pulled over driving my car to the central coast for its inspection but it was ok just have all the paper work ready. I went for a blue slip but needed a RTA inspection done aswell.

As soon as you drive out of the depot and back onto the main road (Roberts Road), there's a big Shell servo - you can't miss it.

Speaking of driving without plates, when I picked my car up, I do remember being side by side next to a police car at the lights on the Hume Highway. The police man looked a few times but didn't seem to care at all. I guess he might have realised it was FOB with all the writing and Japanese characters on the windows.

Thanks for the info Dimi.

How long was the car at the TOLL depot before you picked it up ? & were you charged any late fees or storage fees ?

Nice pic, that's the Shell on Parramatta Rd with the Maccas & KFC behind it right ? The big Officeworks behind gives it away.

Hehe used to be one of my 'pitstops' while waiting in traffic getting to the city..

4th April, i'll be here :) look forward to it Brad, you be in the Super?

Yeah, that's it! Man I swear you know where everything is lol

The car got to Toll on Monday morning then Mario called me on Monday afternoon and asked me to come and collect it on Tuesday. So I went in on Tuesday morning at 9:00am, signed the release forms and drove it home.

They're pretty cool down there, so i doubt they'll charge you anything if you're a few days late.
Give them a ring 02 9335 1122‎.
