Galant VR-4 PFL
Hey all,
I've just bought a galant vr4, pre facelift manual. I'm just thinking about insurance and ICE for now, the stock radio is very dodgy (no aux input, terrible radio reception), and the speakers in the front sound like they're perished.
So my question is, does anyone know of any good stereo installers in Sydney, and also immobiliser/alarm installers too? My insurer requires an immobiliser, plus I wouldn't mind a little security on the vr4.

Also, what double din head units would you recommend?
I was thinking something along the lines of:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Pioneer-...ZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item414a8964fe
either with a seperate bluetooth kit or maybe the pioneer double din with the bluetooth inbuilt and similar looks (don't know if the bluetooth head units are any good though)

just tried to call him but it looks like he's on holiday til late february, how much did you pay for the m80s? it seems like a great alarm

Im using a Mongoose and am happy with it also. Installed by Master Tint, with no issues at all.

If all you want to do it replace the head unit and front speakers with something better, you can probably do it yourself. Im hopeless at anything electrical or mechanical and I managed to install mine easily.

Yes, go with David's recommendation.

From memory, they'll charge you around $450 for a 3 point immobiliser with all black wiring and insurance approved and they'll come to you. For comparison, some other places were charging $700 for the exact same alarm and you have to come to them.

For car stereo installs, Crankin is very highly regarded (www.crankincaraudio.com.au). Call Hakki (the owner) and tell him that Bruce sent you.

I'd prefer to avoid the hassle of wiring up my car audio gear again, I've done the last few vehicles I've owned myself, and am okay with installing, just I lack the patience to do it again. I will go with probably a good set of splits on the front, 4 channel amp, head unit, some 6 inches in the back (or 6x9 if they fit?) and a basic small sub and 2 channel amp to suit. As well as dynamat in the doors to improve sound quality and reduce vibration.

Master Tint $395 but you gotta go to them. That assuming all Master Tint stores have the same pricing.

Do you think the audio install would be over $500? (just installation), I'd provide the gear myself, the only thing I'm worried about too as far as the audio goes is the speaker spacers and mounting being properly done (seen an auto electrician use cardboard instead of mdf or something more suitable, and self tappers into the cars body - which I don't want), and the dynamat being installed properly too, as well as the rca and power cables being seperately run to avoid feedback

I also had my m80 installed in my car by platinumcarsecurity, did a good job $400 ish all up & $70 for front side windows tinted as well.

I will go with probably a good set of splits on the front, 4 channel amp, head unit, some 6 inches in the back (or 6x9 if they fit?) and a basic small sub and 2 channel amp to suit. As well as dynamat in the doors to improve sound quality and reduce vibration.

If you're getting a sub, save your money and ditch the 6x9s.

Aside from being unnecessary for sub bass and mid bass duties, I'm not sure if they're an easy fit in the rear.

If your front sound stage and imaging is good enough, you may find that you don't need rear speakers at all. Failing that, just get a half decent set of 2 way, 6-6.5 inch coaxials for the rear and make sure they are appropriately high or low passed (or faded forward for better front sound stage).

For simplicity's sake, a single 4 channel amp may be sufficient for your set up - 2 channels to run the splits; 2 channels bridged to run the sub; and rear coaxials off the head unit.

Dynamatted doors are a great idea. Make sure both the inner and outer skin are done and that the door is "sealed" by covering up the service holes with MDF.
