Hi All,

I've decided the the RSR exhaust on my car whilst being 3" and therefore cool, is very freaking loud

the most likely reason is it has a fart cannon on it, 3" in 5 or 6" out
so it rumbles massively in low revs, and if you have any throttle (including cruising at 100km/h throttle) it's freaking noisy

ironically, at 4000rpm it's fairly good sound both in quality and noise level

What kind of a muffler have you guys used or would you guys recommend? I really want to stay away from any resonances at 60km/h or 100km/h as they're the two major zones on my commute

other things of note - I don't care about big thick tips so 3" inlet, I'm happy with 2.75 or 3" outlet

Thoughts?

RS*R are not that noisy at all, they are just 96db. It does have though a nice deep rumble sound, just ask Brad (king_panther) coz he's been drooling my RS*R LOL.

I grant you that it's not a bad sound at all, just too instrusive, I can;t hear any bass in the music and I just got the word back for my PG medical that in the last 2 years I've lost some hearing sensitivity in the bass reginos (in this case the blame is my laser exhaust which had a resonance at 100km/h) but this legnum exhaust is definitely louder so I want to be careful

do the silencers for the RSR exhaust completely destroy performance and fuel economy or is it OK for commuting and then pull it out for the weekend?

My Apexi 3in catback with the silencer still sound nice (heaps quieter) as doesn't seem to affect fuel economy

definatly get a resonator, if u already got one, get another

any good quality cannon or oval muffler with be nice, hurricane or lukey are good products

was thinking of a 3" size fibreglass filled unit
18"x8"x4" volume

not a bad call about the resonators..

i would be getting the best exhaust for peformance, so a 3" pipe with no mid mufflers. then, if its too loud, get a resonator. i did this with my other car and luckily it didnt need any resonator.

yeah much better than a mid muffler. ideally i wouldnt use one, unless u really need to reduce the noise levels.

well that's the thing, with the silencer in, the noise levels aren't too bad it's just this crazy boom at 2400 which of course is 100km/h and about 30%throttle at 60...

I spose at the same time it would be nice if I didn't need to use the silencer - hence the interest in another muffler

I had a Hurricane muffler on the end of my 3" exhaust system, and it wasn't all that loud and sounded great :)

yeah a silencer isnt a good idea, its basically a restrictor plate, which takes away any power gains u achieved from ur exhaust.

sounds like u need a resonator, which will prevent a lot of the droning.

I have the varex remote control muffler on mine. It's not cheap but it does a good job. On silent it whistles when you rev it out but you don't generally put it on silent to rev it out. At freeway speeds it is virtually stock but hit a button and you are ready for action. Too many times I have had a loud droney exhaust that I could do nothing about

are they as good as they seem?

do you go to any washmeets in melbourne? I'd love to see it in action!

Stuii, can you post a pic of your exhaust? If I like it, I'd be more than happy to trade my Fujitsubo 3" cat back for your RS*R. My exhaust is extremely quiet, but still flows well (being 3").

You'd get a quieter exhaust for free! Let me know mate. Serious offer.

Throw me a PM and lets discuss
how would the mechanics of a trade work in this way?
