Thanks Size1,

Well she's a bit of a throw together hence a few teething problems.

I bought her stock from a guy who imports from Japan and enjoyed her for a few years until someone rear ended me.

I decided to fix her up with insurance money I finally got after chasing the guys for 4 months.

Anyway, I bought a write off from down Sydney which had a lot of work done on the engine, gearbox and running gear. I've swapped most of the good parts over but as the donor was a year older a few of the computers didn't match up to well so a few issues with ABS light always on and AYC not comming on when I spin on gravel roads, apart from that she runs like a dream. I could upload some photos of both cars to get some help with identifying if the donor is pre face lift model etc....

The main issue is a rattling/banging when I accelerate hard. All the engine mounts have been up graded but the guy I bought her off said it might be a gearbox mount?

Any advice would be welcome as I'm moving to Lismore, NSW next week and would like to get it running better before i leave Brissy !!

Regarding the rattling noise - check that your under-engine crossmember (well actually it goes front-back) is bolted in properly. If it's loose, the lower engine mount won't be doing anything and the whole thing will rattle.

!! Welcome To OzVR4 !!

Just out of curiosity, with the rattling/banging, when you go over speed bump does it make same noise ?

Hi there,
The rattling is just when I accelerate really hard and no noises to report when I go over speed bumps !

I've checked the exhaust system and all seems good so not sure if it's a mounting issue and not relly sure how to check?

Thanks Mookers,

The engine swap was done professionally by STZ up at Virginia so I'm hoping everything was done correctly. The guy i bought the donor car said he'd replaced all the engine mounts and something about a gearbox mount being a bit noisy when he had it in his car but I can't identify this to check if it's worn.

I'll have a look for the cross member you suggested and check all is good there ; )

Ohh okay,
Because i was going to suggest maybe check the tailshaft and make sure it hasn't got alot of play (where the spider kit are and joints) and check the centre bearing on the tailshaft (mounts) only reason im suggesting it because a friend just replaced his centre bearing (not on a galant/legnum) as he was getting noise over bumps and sometimes when accelerating off the lights, and i dont mean speeding, just normal speed limit but off the light when the car is still.
Maybe worth a check ? Hard to guess when we can't hear the noise :) but im sure there will be a few members in QLD that know a good mechanic to check it out before you go to Lismore ?

Thanks, will have a look tomoz,

Will be good to check all the rear drive area out for peace of mind but it's only when I plant it hard down pretty much at any speed and sounds more in the engine area ; )

Hi Pauly, welcome to Ozvr4

does it ONLY happen while accelerating hard and / or after accelerating?

also any upgraded parts like cooler pipes, intercooler and so on?

is it auto? as you mentioned the computer messed up with ABS and AYC..

as for AYC not working.. does it have the red AYC light on at all?

any of the hardwares serviced recently? like the ayc diff and non ayc side, transfer case and g/box? engine?

Hi Naughtika

The noise only happens while accelerating hard and there are no any upgraded parts except the ecu has been flashed and no hardwares serviced recently.
The gearbox was rebuilt by the previous owner and the engine had new water pump, timing belt etc all usual major 100,000 km stuff.

It's an auto model but there is no AYC light at all even when i get her skidding but the ABS light is always on however the actual braking system seems to work fine so from reading previous posts about changing the AYC fluid it sounds like I need to reset the system but don't have one of the magic boxes you guys use to do this?
