Hey guys,

Still haven't got my Legnum back due to the torque converter seal, the place that's looking at it only began work on it this week.

I spoke to them yesterday and they have said:

"This is the most difficult job we have ever had, there are pipes everywhere"

My concern is that they might charge additional labor for their inexperience.

What is the absolute maximum I should have to pay for a torque converter seal replacement on the Legnum? I don't want to be paying for their lack of experience with the vehicle.

When I took my car to get the clutch replaced (same job really, you gotta take the tranny out), I searched here and found and printed out a guide for my mechanic. It helped him a lot.

$950 is the average price for the torque converter seal and rear main to be replaced. Whatever they quoted you, it must be honoured. Don't pay anything over what you were quoted.

Put it this way, I'm getting mine done for $670 at Meek Automotive.

Ant, my mechanic is in his 70's and he had no problem getting the auto out'a my car. Then on top of that, he did the full 100k service (just to be safe) and didn't bat an eyelid. Cost me 1k all up for labour, so you shouldn't be paying more than $800 - $1000.

Did you get a guesstimate from the bloke before he started???

In saying that when did you launch your last rocket for NASA? lol, but seriously Rhys most of the mechanics everywhere are experienced on like Commo's, Fords and other common cars, i've had several visibly look worried when they inspect the engine bay and I tell them what it is. Of course I avoid those mechs cause I don't trust that they wont screw my car.

It's really not that bad, but yea they've gotta know what they're doing. If you don't do things in the correct order you'll end up in trouble... I highly recommend that every VR4 owner gets a copy of the new JPNZ workshop manual, whether it's for yourself or your mechanic.
