Have been browsing around here off and on researching Legnums, and thought I'd register and say Gday because if all goes well I should have one by the end of next week

I want a comfortable & practical daily driver that still has a bit of go and handling for weekend use. Currently use my diesel Patrol for daily duties, and am just a bit over the slowness and the PITA of driving a manual through peak hour everyday. But i love it for beach camping trips and towing my track car around. My current track car is a 180SX with Silvia front (Sil80) SR20DET 200rwkws, cage, coilovers and lots of other bits and pieces.

I also have a JZA80 Supra TT 6spd that rarely gets driven because its just so impractical and a attracts a bit of the wrong kind of attention. I've had the Supra for 18 months, and before that I had a R32 GTR for 2 years. So I've had a few Jap imports. Hell, even my Patrol is actually a Jap import Safari! I'm getting rid of that to buy the Legnum and have some cash left over to get a new car trailer for the track hack... At the moment I'm hiring and borrowing trailers to get to events

But back to Legnums... I want an auto despite having some reservations about their reliability. Autos are just so much nicer in peak hour traffic where it will spend most of its time. I drive to Sydney (or thereabouts) a couple of times a year too, so I don't want a buzzy 3000rpm highway cruise... I've got my eye on a white 1999 S2 at the moment, which I'll probably end up buying, but there is one more S1 I want to look at before I make a final decision... The 20bhp less doesn't really bother me, and I like the look of both so it just depends on finding the best one for the best price.

Anyway, I've found plenty of good info on this site, and it seems to be a very good atmosphere here too. Look forward to meeting some of you QLDers on a cruise or something in the not too distant future.

Hi Harry,

welcome to the forums. You should buy Ben's (username is just plain nuts) Super VR-4, it's a bargain! However it is kind of attention grabbing so maybe not quite what you're looking for...

If you're not busy tomorrow night you should come out to Willowbank and say hi. There's a few of us hitting the drag strip.

cheers

Lee

yeah I saw that SuperVR4 advertised here. Nice car and looks really tough, but not quite what I'm after. Besides, the Super VR4 would eat into my car-trailer money a bit...

Willowbank is going to be cooooold! And its a bit far for me - I live out on the northside. But will be interested to see how you guys go. I'm not really buying for the outright performance, just for a nice daily, but knowing me I'll end up taking it to a few tracks eventually anyway. Will have to see what it does around Lakeside for instance - my favourite track. And being AWD I might take it to the autocross too. But I have to get one first! Day off tomorrow for a couple of final test drives, and hopefully the Supra goes tomorrow afternoon as well :)

Hey there Harry, looks like we're the same with the lazy names thing :P haha..

Sounds like you have a nice set of cars, post up pics of them in the Members Thread, then update it with your Legnum when you buy it!

I say go the Series 2, but I'm just biased hehe

picked up my Leggy today! 1999 Type S Auto with 96,000km. Pearl white, no sunroof. Very tidy car apart from one very minor dent that I'm hoping a paintless dent puller can get out. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Just got home after taking it for a decent drive over Mt Glorious, past Somerset Dam and back through Neurum Creek and Mt Mee. Absolutely love it. Handles nice for such a big car. It has some sort of adjustable shocks in the front (haven't checked the back yet) but no idea what brand they are. Its the best combination of ride comfort and handling in any car I've had. Couldn't be happier. Brakes were very good too, I had to brake very hard from about 110-120kph once to avoid hitting a low flying owl, of all things! It was a big bastard too!

The car feels very solid and tight. The seats are good - firm and comfortable. The Nardi wheel is alright too. And with the hi-vis dash it all adds up to pretty nice interior. Heaps of headroom as well, which is something I often don't get in cars.

It goes well. Certainly isn't in the same league as the Supra in terms of accelleration, but I wasn't expecting it to be either. It is however in much better condition than my Supra was, and I'm very happy with the changeover from my impractical, noisy, uncomfortable Supra.

Congrats on your buy mate!

Just make sure you service that auto regularly with the right fluid, fit a trans cooler and you'll be fine.

thanks for the tips guys. I will definitely be taking good care of the auto. I read alot of info on here and other sites before buying. A trans cooler will be the top priority after the 100,000km service.

Hey Haza,

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the family.
The auto boxes are actually quite tough and durable if you look after them.
Add a transmission fluid cooler and treat your auto to a fresh transmission fluid flush every six months and you'll be fine.
I must admit, they perform very well when needing to zip through traffic.

I, too, used to own a JZA80 RZ Twin Turbo Supra. It was an automatic as well (i like my auto's).
Comparing the VR-4 with the Supra, stock for stock, the Supra gave more "butterflies in your stomach" on the acceleration pull, but when I bumped up the boost to 13-14psi on the VR-4 with a cheap $30 Turbotech Manual Boost Controller, boy did she move! Especially off the lights!

Anyhow, do keep us updated and be sure to post some photos of your VR-4 for us :)

Glad you're enjoying your car :)
