HAS ANYONE EVER BOUGHT D2 GEN2 COILOVERS??

looking at getting some as i have d2 brakes wanted to keep the purple theme going hah..

but the spring rates are 18.6kg F and 7.2kg on the rear???
is this crazy??

from my previous questions i was thinkin about 10kg on the front would be good...
any help for info as im still a noob. cheers.
 
Thats like race spec spring rates. I have Tein for sale which are firm but no where near as hard as that.
 
I don't know about the 2nd generation ones but I would stay clear of D2 & G4 ones (both the same, just different colours). I had the first generation G4's in my old pulsar and they were unbelievably shit. You can buy BC coilovers for almost the same amount and they shit all over them for quality!

Oh and spring rate wise, you only need about 8kg front and 6kg rear. Anything more than that and they'll be stiffer than an old man on viagra!

I ran 12F, 8R in my crx, which I guess is similar to 18kg in the Legnum when you consider 950kg vs 1500kg. It handled extremely well on smooth roads, but went to shit over bumps. Unfortunately, Aussie roads are bumpy and even if you ignore the complete lack of comfort and practicality (ie no more driving on dirt, some driveways out of bounds etc) I'd only ever recommend it for a track-only car. I used to get a lot of comments about one of my wheels coming off the ground when simply going up a regular driveway. Those coilovers were BC race spec.

I ended up getting a custom set-up comprising koni yellows with eibach springs at 8kgF, 6kgR. The heavier back ratio helped deal with the FWD understeer issue. It was still like a go-kart, but handled a lot better on our roads.

I have no experience with Legnum suspension, but I'd wager a bet that 8/6 would be a perfect compromise between comfort and performance handling. 10/8 would be the upper limit I'd consider - I mean it IS a wagon... so why wind it up so tight that you can't take it off-road?

Finally, as far as full coilover setups go, the best I ever ran were by Tein. They were the first ones I got, but unfortunately I took the lack of race-like firmness as a bad thing. Looking back 4 or 5 suspension changes later, I realised the softness of the Teins wasn't really that soft, but it was waaay better at maintaining traction on the limits on typical Aussie quality tarmac. The Teins were around 5-/3kg, which is probably very cose to 8/6 on the Leggy.

Bottom line, harder is NOT better. There's a hell of a lot to consider if you read up on suspension. On our roads, suspension travel and larger pistons and valves will go a lot further than ramping up the stiffness of the springs. After driving in a few lucky bastard's cars, I can confidently place one brand of coilovers on a pedestal and they are DMS. You could out-handle any other car with race suspension while being able to safely land jumps no worries. Crazy.
 
I have D2 race coil overs on my legnum.
Cant remember the specs but its incredibly rough.
I will find out for you tomorrow.

i've got some Tein coil overs coming up for sale soon (as soon as i get the Rallliart ones on)...off a Galant though....not sure if the spring rates would suit a legnum as the back weighs more...PM me if your interested....

unknown condition and type (you can turn the knob and adjust the dampening) till i get them off.....

will confirm they're not seized before posting (and paying membership) on these forums.

As for the D2 ones..i'll just say....i haven't heard anything good about them....i know people who have got them in the past..you get what you pay for. For a street car and spirited driving they're ok...for track work......i'd get something else.

Then again...a different person would pay $350-$650 to get coil overs installed properly (corner weighting + proper alignment).

and also i one the generation1 D2 coilovers has leaking shocks... but gen 2???
im more or less giving them a go becuase they look sweet n black/purple fits my theme... as for money... i did set aside a few shit buys...
