hi everyone

I joined to research mroe info on the legnum

looking at selling my bmw e46 and buying a practical and good valued wagon. still working out if I am goign to settle with a legnum or a nissan stagea

I think the legnum offers a bit more with the leather, roof, looks, etc.

my main requirements is to have the extra space to put in some bike gear and to add a tow bar to add a bike rack so the stagea and legnum both satisfy this.

how do you pronounce legnum?

have a nice day

Welcome :) it pronounced leg-numb. The only real advantage the stag has is that you can buy a newer one. Its slower, uglier, drinks more fuel, uglier and far more expensive and did i mention its ugly (not biased at all as i own 2 legnums)

Hey Welcome bud. Definately go the Leggie it's quicker n sexier. But if you don't mind driving an ugly Volvo brick, i guess the stagea's a goer aswell....

I need to find myself one of the purple legnums, on carsales theres a manual purple in victoria but it has some fugly wheels on it

budget is about 10k for the car alot of the stagea are overpriced IMO, some decent not raped skyline R33s can be had for 8k

I could be wrong but i think you might need 2 budget a bit higher. Or import one yourself see sponser like iorn chef.

It would probably be $10k +-2k there is a 1996 type S listed for $11999 on carsales and a few auto ones with leather and sunroof might give them a call to have a look and buy it on the weekend

Goodluck m8. Just remember if they are nearing the 100k mark which alot of the lower priced ones are you can be looking at 1-2K for the major service and full comp insurance will be round 1k depending. There's heaps of info on this forum n remember the search tool is your friend;)

Hi and welcome Phil.

Regarding your requirement for the car to store bike gear, look here:

You'll see that you're able to fit 2 full sized mountain bikes in the back of the Legnum.

With your budget, you're likely to get a better condition Legnum than Stagea. You generally pay more for the Stagea than an equivalent model and condition Legnum.

The one thing that the Stageas do better than the Legnum is the ability to tap into the aftermarket. If you're planning to do some serious mods and can put up with the Stagea's ghastly looks and bulkiness, you'll find that the Stagea's RB25DET has a ton of bolt on options.

However, for a stock or lightly modified practical wagon, the Legnum is hard to beat.

thanks for the link scriber, the only stagea that I would get if I was to do some modification would be the rs260.

I am looking for the 100,000km using the search function but not having any luck. There are a few Legnums in NSW and VIC that are within my price range, just gotta research what to look out for when inspecting these cars. I live in VIC and don't mind picking up a car from NSW as I work in NSW every 3rd weekend

Take a multimeter is about the only advice I can give. Bought mine with a bad alternator and after researching, it seems a fairly common problem. it should read about 12v when the car is off and about 14v with the car turned on, if this isnt the reading you get then the alternator is probably bad and you want it fixed before buying.
Also when test driving it, cruise along at 60 in 5th gear (for autos only) and if the engine feels like it has a bit of a shudder to it then it probably doesnt have the right gear oil in it. Easy fix, but common mistake made by yards importing these cars. The autos are quite smooth and quick with gear changes, so if it feels clunky, noisy or slow, then there might be problems with it.

Just bought mine recently and those are the things I kept a lookout for, goodluck.

^^^ that price is too good to be true! Its nearly identical to my red leg, except leather and a slightly different paint scheme.

No problems Phil.

If you're thinking about an RS260, then your budget clearly isn't $10k ;)

Tip for searching for 100,00klm - enter the phrase "100*" (without the "") and limit the search to title only.

In respect of what to look for when inspecting VR-4's, look here:

That red car was 14k but i guess he really wants it gone

Still in budget though even including them

my budget is not very strict i would pay more if it is worth the extra money such as leather, roof, manual. They don't come with cruise control the legnums?

I would prefer not to get a red or black car. All my previous cars that were red has had a bad end to their life, had a red 200sx, after 4 weeks off road getting things done (fmic, high mount turbo kit, all the support gear, mech diff and suspension, my cousin comes over to borrow it to go to the shops cause his car had no aircon, 10 mins later get a call to say someone t-boned him.

had a red mx6 turbo (old one) sister borrows this to one of them weekend markets, some scum steals it and it was gone forever

red alfa romeo GTV6, full dealer service history decides to slip its timing belt off the gears, bye bye head was still under warranty offloaded that quick

no black cars because other than red all my cars have been black haha

p.s thanks scriber that link to the post is most helpful as soon as I get confirmation of my next job contract secured I am off to buy a legnum a bit excited as I haven't owned a turbo car in a while since the 200sx
