Help Removing Glove Box

Hey Guys,

I need some help and it may sound stupid but oh well, here goes.

I’ve just bought a new glove box today to replace my old one; I began to replace it, not knowing what I was doing a screw felt behind the black plastic (white circle). I spent awhile trying to get to it by trying to take the whole plastic off but have no idea how to get it off, you must be able somehow. I thinking the plug (red circle) must come off allowing me to pull the whole plastic off and allowing me to get the fallen screw behind it.





Can anyone tell me how I get it off, it seems to be stuck on their pretty well, and I don’t want to break it. Can anyone help me or willing to lead me a hand tomorrow to help me and show me how to get it off.

From memory i dont think you need to remove that trim to get the glove box out! But yes you have to remove that plug to access a screw to remove that trim panel. Once all screws are out, you need to slide the panel towards the front of the car, takes a bit of jimmying/persuasion/swearing sometimes, I find.

Open up your glove box. On the LHS there will be a funny plastic bump-stop. If you slide it towards you (with some persuasion) it will pop out, then gently but firmly pushing on the RHS trim, you should be able to open the glove box right out, and gain access to the screws that hold it in place.

You may find that with the glove box removed, taking off that side trim panel will be easier.

Or I could be wrong....

Thanks for the fast reply Smitty,

Basically I have done what you have said in the process to replace the glove box; I have all the plastic trimmed removed on the left hand side and I’m trying to remove the right hand side plastic trim to get the screw that I dropped. The reason why I had to do all this as I had to replace the metal bar (red arrow) that holds the glove box attachment clips which makes the glove box open and close like hinges but in the process a screw felt through the plug whole (white circle).

So you are telling me to be able to get behind the right hand side plastic trim to get the screw I have to just try and pull the plastic off but doing it carefully; I tried this for a while but I felt if I added any more force I would break the plastic which would piss me more off. Can’t the plug come off some how?

Undo the two screws you have circled. The white one is plastic and screws into a plastic plug, lever that out after. Then pop the screw cover off the red circled one and remove the metal screw. After that remove the two metal screws above there that would normally be about where top and bottom right corners of the glove box are. Then that whole plastic trim panel slides towards the front of the car and off.

Thanks for your help, starting to make sense.

So you saying the plug (red circle) just pops off, how do you do this, i tried levering it out but had no luck, what do you do to wedge it out? assuming i have done what you have said the whole panel should come off. I have undone all the screws for the panel just not the red cricle, its just the matter of getting it off, and by the sounds of it, I just have to pull the plastic off abd the plug comes off with it. I was trying this but it seemed it was going to break on me, is there a trick?

Use a tiny screw driver, it's just a cover. Don't worry if you break it as you can buy replacements. Just don't slip and scratch up the panel.

(Edit.. hmm this diagram seems to be missing the other plastic plug, but I think that is the same part as from the driver's footwell.)

I'll play with it tomorrow and try and wedge it with a screw driver tomorrow, hopefully all goes well, i feel like a dumbass ahah

Wrap the end of a screwdriver in a thin cloth, which will help prevent scratches.

After all that I manged to get the plug off and the plastic and got to the missing screw, it was so simple, i feel like a retard ahahah. Glove box is installed and good to go, thanks for you guys help
