Help!!!!!

Hi all, I need help big time. I know its not a Legnum but I am in the middle of fitting cruise control to my wifes Mazda 3 and I have accidently cut one of the wires that goes to the clutch peddle switch. Being so tight up under the dash, I can only really work with one hand so soldering is out and am not having much luck re-joining the wire. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this :cursing:

Get a crimping clamp.... Easiest way to do it in my experience (Although not the best obviously)

EDIT - One of the plastic covered ones you stick both sides of the wire in then "clip" it shut and it crimps the wires for you and saves having to get pliers etc in there to close it etc. Kinda works like a bridging clamp

I have a couple of "scotch locks" which do the same sort of thing but the wires have to be overlaped which shortens it and when I go to reconnect the plug into the the housing, one end comes out.

What about adding a bit of extra wire to the equation Gary, using 2 scotch locks, hence taking tension off wires when you re-attach the harness....... my blonde 2cents worth

If its too tight to fit a soldering iron into , then do it the way suggested by Kitty poo.

That was my next attempt.....tomorrow, but have to buy some more connectors and wire

Yeah the scotch locks was what I was refering to but you can get the bridging ones somewhere (Saves wire ) or just add the extra wire in as suggested

How much wire do you do you have to pla with? ie how much can you pull down to crimp onto?

Also, can you pull anything out of where your working to get better access to it? I know, might be a silly question but could save you more time and skin in the long run.

I only have about 2cm on one end and 1/2cm on the other. The loom is attached to the dash frame up the top and I cant pull any extra wire down nor car I break the clip attaching the wire (cant get anything in to break it off)

Cant take anything out either

And you can't get a screwdriver in there or wire cutters to remove the outer sheath either?

Scotch locks were the only other idea I had as well.

Nope, have a clutch pedal on one side and a heater assembly on the other, cant even get completely underneath to have a decent look. Suppose thats what you get got being 6' and 105kgs

Scotch locks are satins joiners. When I was working as an auto elec we were always getting cars in with electrical faults and 9 out of 10 times a scotch lock was the source of the problem.

I'm 6'4" and 107kgs. I know what's it's like to get on your back and do silly things like this... and if only you could change the size of your hands to fit under there....

Good pick up... I'm 110kg according to the scales just now.... I'll have to go looking for the extra 3kgs...

Problem solved, wires back together and everything working fine. Managed to get it fixed the easiest of ways...........................................took it to the auto electrician who fixed it in 10 min. and only cost $20
