Hi All,

I'm currently looking around for a new car and have my eyes set on a Legnum. I've come from a history of imports and other 'different' vehicles.

I have a couple of questions due to not coming from a Mitsu background.

Whats the build quality of the legnums/galants like ?

Are there common mechanical problems they experience ?

Also, are there parts on the Legnum/Galant that are interchangeable with aus spec cars like the magna ?

Sorry if they are questions that are always askd, I did a search and came up a little short.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi there Mr Mortal Kombat ... Click on my signature below to give u a good background on your questions.
Build Quality = great
mechanical = like all cars u must look after them (lots of oil changes-both engine and trans)
Interchangable = some evo, depends what ur after, we have tools to let u know when u need anything.

Welcome and Good luck and hope to see u in a Leggy soon.

Cheers mate.

I'm mostly interested in engine parts like the water pump, belts, etc.

I'm not sure in what direction i'll go with modifying the car, as I've been down that road before ;)

If you want mate, I can bring my car around so you can check it out.

I'm just out Windsor way, so it's not too far.

Welcome to the club too!! :D

We wouldn't all be importing and driving them if we couldn't get hold of those sorta basic parts, would we?

Shit, I hadn't even seen one in the flesh before I bought mine let alone worried about parts :ROFLMAO:

I wonder if that's why my Legnum keeps costing me so much.. Hmm..

So, still keen?

Thanks for the offer Paul. Windsor is still a fair way out tho ;)

Owning another import doesn't bother me, I was just wondering if you could use parts that are readily accessable from Mitsu australia.

As with most cars, once they get to a certain age/number of kms, they need a major service, and i'm just trying to gauge how much it will cost me to do the belts/water pump/etc, shortly after I purchase a Legnum.

yeah went to get the timing belt an the rest of the belts changed then found out my water pump was shot so i was gettin that fixed...and my ecu died whilst in the process of doin that somehow... and my rear brake pistons siezed or something along those lines and a few other things I found out once I did the first service on it...costin me a fair bit...but really it's worth it in the end they're a blast to drive ...

cant wait to get mine back so i can have some quality time again

The timing belt would be the main issue, and if i'm doing a timing belt, I might as well do the water pump at the same time and save on labour.

Thats the best bet mate. Even go so far as to have the pullys swaped over and then get who ever is doing the work to have a look at all the seals that are down hidden away in there just to be sure.

My first big service cost about 2k for parts, labour, fluids and for some extras. Then when we ditched the trans fluid, bits of the gearing rings came out with it! Not a good start really.. It cost me 3k just to get the auto re-built so all up the first service was arround 5k!

But, seeing as the car was only 5k... it all evens out I guess :D

And yes, they are ace fun to drive!

I'm going to be budgeting about 1.5k for a service as soon as I get one.

I'm curious to see how the Legnum will stack up in handling compared to my previous cars.

I know the Timing belt plus tensioners, etc can be the most expensive bits, but oils and other fluids aren't that bad.

Whats a water pump for the Legnums worth ?

Do a search for 100,000km service there is a good spreadsheet in that thread with part numbers and prices. Very handy.

I've done the searc and discovered that the cost of a waterpump assembly can vary between $100-$500 depending on where you go and wether you get genuine or aftermarket.

I could find the spreadsheet you were talking about Nigel, mabey i'm not looking hard enough

Well, I put a deposit on a 98 manual Legnum in white today. Should take posesion in about a week.
