Who else has HID's?

I think they are MAGNIFICENT lights.... I hardly ever use my high beams, even on the open road

BUT

Every poof coming in the other direction flashes their high beam at me because they obviously think they are too bright! It becomes highly irritating having to flash back at every moron with my high beams just to prove i'm still on low :banghead:

I'm not taking them out, everyone else can just suffer

Does anyone else with HID's have this problem?

its because the they cant be aimed properly in our head lights,

the reflectors in our lights are not designed for HID bulbs/conversion kits.
and the light instead of being aimed correctly, its scattered and is very annoying to oncomming drivers.

here in NZ hid conversions (bulb+ballast kits) are illegal,

and you can only use HID if you lights are designed for it.

Basically unless you change you lights to true hids (cibies)
there nothing you can do

Adjust them so they are pointing down as much as possible.

Cheers Carsten, makes a lot of sense..... And stuff forking out for the Cibies :)

Interesting that they are illegal over there. They provide MUCH better lighting whilst driving....

Adjust them so they are pointing down as much as possible.

They are lol.... And my high beams are possum spotters hahaha

I'll think you'll find that HID's in non HID compliant lenses are illegal here too (and so they should be) unless they are self levelling and have washers (the water type) on them.

If you see how much glare you receive as a passing motorist, you would see why they are illegal.

I have factory HID's in my Chaser and have never been flashed once (by any motorists or women). Having HID's in lenses that aren't manufactured for them, is worse than driving around constantly on high beams.

Hopefully, one of those poofs that flashes their lights at you (after you have blinded them), doesn't run off the road or hit you head on.

I tend to get blinded by normal cars with HIDs anyway haha..

I had them on my Mazda, they were awesome.. made metal signs and things behind trees glow before I got to them, hell the reflectors on the side of a hiding highway patrol car lit up way ahead one night out towards Castle Hill, saved me there :p hehe..

HIDs are great, because they can allow extra vision, but yeah they are illegal in NSW and they do annoy lots of other drivers.. But generally only on hills where I'm higher, which is when other HIDs tend to get me (when theyre higher - factory or after market, whatever)

I want them on my Galant.. 6000k headlights and 12000k foggies

Anyone who is under the delusion that HID kits are a good idea, please read through this thread.

Here's a comparison between what your lights SHOULD look like, and what they look like if you're using an aftermarket kit (thanks Dimi):

5-2.jpg

3-7.jpg

You can read a full explanation in the linked thread, but basically you DON'T have extra light, you think you do because your eyes are being dazzled by all the light bouncing off nearby objects, but you have less than half the light distance you should have AND you're less able to see as far (because your eyes are adjusting for the excess of nearby light, screwing up your low-light vision).

i have this problem with my factory headlights im always getting flashed by other cars when i only have my lowbeams on.

even the other day when i was giving way to someone coming into my work he just stopped and flashed his highbeams at me so i was all **** you and flashed mine back and he just drove in lol
John it sounds like your headlamps are just misaligned - you need to get them properly aligned. It's not only dangerous to drive around with misaligned headlamps, it's also illegal.

Im with you!!!

Although i have had no problems with people flashing me.
Mine are aimed fairly low though , but still work very ****ing well!!
I will never go back to a standard style headlight (unless it has HID's standard)

Just bought some for the Silvia. That car annoys other road users as much as is physically possible, so I doubt the HIDs will make it worse.

Hmm odd... If you have the correct, tight headlamp beam pattern AND they're aligned correctly, they shouldn't be annoying other drivers... You should be able to check this fairly easily by looking at the front of the car while the headlamps are on - if they're dazzling you they're either too high or something is causing the beam to scatter, because there's no way your low beams should be hitting your eyes unless you're kneeling down to headlamp height.

So I'm thinking either you've got an HID kit installed, or there's something else causing the beam to scatter, like the globe isn't sitting in the correct place in the headlamp (maybe due to modification or damage)? I'll be interested to know what's causing this for you...

I put HIDs in a AE92 Corolla and I was amazed at how much the reflectors on the road light up when you have low beams on. I admit, the road directly in front of you isn't as bright as with normal halogens, but when you can see the reflectors on the road for an extra 100 metres or so I found them really good to drive with especially on dark roads.

I used to get flashed once in a while, but they seemed to direct the light OK without stupid amounts of scatter. My kit was wired straight to the battery and you plugged the normal headlight connector into the back of them. This way, you could easily remove them to put into another car.

My sister has that car now and loves them as much as I did - she even got it passed rego with them in! They're illegal here though unless you have the self levelling and the like everyone's already mentioned :)

I got HID kit 8000k. I love it! To the rest of the drivers.....don't really care. Lee have seen my lights at night so he would be the man to ask. I was going to get 12000k but i think that would be way too bright.

The "K" rating on the globes is a COLOUR or TEMPERATURE rating not a indication of the amount of light they give off.
