Historic Number Plates, can it be reversed back to normal?

I'm sure a lot won't know but thought I'd ask

Im just curious if anyone know, especially in NSW (but I'm guessing other states would be the same)

If you register a car that's over 25yrs from normal number plates to historic plates (with historic plates it's limited how you can use your car) but if you want to go back to normal plates, is that possible ?

Or is it once you register as historic you have to stay on it basically forever ?

I'm fairly certain you just cancel the rego and start over, like any normal car?
