How does this happen?

When I bought the car in 2015, it had a slipping clutch. (How it was sold)

The clutch was changed over the last weekend in February 2015, the flywheel was surfaced, and an Excedy 7223HD was fitted.

The clutch we pulled from the car had an exploded bearing, plenty of meat, and was not orginal.

I've done about 7000km on this clutch, and the bearing is destroyed.

Deffinately a HD and not a standard 7223?

Either way that's a short life!

Most common causes can be anything from resting your foot on the clutch while driving, foot on the clutch at the lights to something as major as too much pressure (underrated kit) and misalignment... But definately something wrong

No, I didn't drive it hard, as it had too many towtruck trips as is.

I don't ride the clutch, when I was driving buses, it was the number one cause of driver's deaths. That, or maintenance had you change it yourself as penance.

There's still plenty of friction material left, in both cases, the bearing disintegrated.

Hmmm... Do you have enough pedal freeplay or slight movement at the box or is it hard up against the thrust bearing?

Over extending. Have you adjusted the pedal. And checked the throw of the slave/release fork isnt doing something odd like holding pressure on the bearing
