As long as its after the 15th of this month... count me in too... preferably the bottom (red leggy) set... as they were soo easy to install and worked great on my old car.

Has anyone tried to see if anything locally will do the job? EG: Magna bonnet struts?

Fair enough. It's the 1% that bothers me, plus the price (to me) doesn't seem exactly cheap. Especially when I could pick up a pair from the wreckers for under $20.

I might actually do that when I get a free weekend :) and see if they do fit.

Oooh since they're hydraulic...I should see if my old man can get them.

God damn that colour wins...

My mate's new Cressida has these things and they are extremely annoying. The bonnet springs up so hard it just about takes your face off every time you open it.

Ok guys, I will go for the polished stainless steel lifters.

2 reasons for that:

1. Cheaper (if you like the set for $150 I can give you the sellers details)
2. Polished stainless steel looks better, the cylinder in black locks like a stock item to me.

@ygoslo: Don't worry, the bonnet won't spring up hard... our bonnet is way to heavy for that angle!

@VR-04-TT: Follow that link and you will find the current available lifters on ebay Germany - Exchange rate: 1Euro roughly $2

Let's say deadline is Saturday 6pm.

Please copy the list below and add your name if you definitely take one. ($80 for Perth pick up - $90 interstate) I'll PM you my bank details on the weekend.

The galant ones are listed at 80 odd euros? I don't know what you're trying to show me?

I'd prefer the stock look, but that's just personal preference :) Not a big fan of shiny. I'll let you know how I go with the magna ones just so you know for future reference. My dad has a dead KR Verada that I can borrow parts from temporarily.

Just tried to show you that 80$ or $90 isn't too expensive... I'm sure used lifters from a Magna are way cheaper, but I don't have that option and you can't really compare prices from an auto recycler with brand new stuff...

But anyway, let me/us know how you go with them!

Tom if Paul's dad can work something out that will work, it will be brand new.

There's also a hydraulic strut specialist in Osborne Park that should be able to supply anything we like if we can give them a sample, so options abound. I'm just being lazy - you've found these so its easier for me to just buy them off you than waste time running around the city.

Well of course you can compare the prices if the second hand part is doing the exact same job just as well. It makes sense. All I said was that for me $90 is too expensive for something that is just holding a bonnet up and isn't a 100% direct fitment.

Just out of pure curiosity, how come Magna ones aren't an option for you? If they do fit/work, you could always rub them back and polish them. Not trying to make you buy them or ruin your idea here, I'm just asking.

I will let you know how I go :)

Theoretically, anything should work. They don't necessarily have to be Mitsubishi parts.

I've just been concerned about clearance - my Magna had an obvious depression for the struts to fit, where the VR4 doesn't seem to have much room at all. If I hadn't seen photos of an 8th gen with them I wouldn't have believed they'd fit at all!

Hey guys, I checked out the struts from my old man's KR Verada today.

I reckon it's do-able, but not sure of the bonnet side of it for us.

Something interesting to note is that the VR4 bonnet is DEFINITELY lighter than the Verada one. I made this observation after having both of them almost land on my head today!

Not trying to ruin anyone else's ideas, just sharing some of my own. :)

Speak for yourself Mr Series 1 ;)

I went and saw a gas strut specialist Friday, who said you can't retrofit struts on the bonnet of a car that wasn't made for them. I told him I'd seen it done and he said to get those ones then, 'cause in his experience no one in Aus would want to get involved :wanker:

Haven't ordered them... still waiting for the cheap alternatives :)

Will bring some with me when I'm overseas next time.
