Decided it would be a good idea to loctite the rear bank plug leads in when they did the last plug change.

Went to do a service today. 20 minutes later i had the oil draining and everything in the engine bay apart and the front plugs changed, then 3 more hours to get the back plug leads out as they had been covered with loctite before being inserted. Trashed the lead tops in the process so the car is now off the road until i can get some new leads from ICE. FAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRK!!! And i still have not filled it back up with oil.

What a bloody drama. Looking through the receipts i got with the car when i bought it, Mitsubishi Chadstone were the last people to change the plugs. Must have let the apprentice loose on the car that day i reckon. Wrong plugs in there as well - NGK PFR6J.

Also noted that i think i will install an oil catch can in the near future, as there is a bit of oil in the intercooler top pipes. Not too much to be worried about, just i would rather it not be there.

So anyways, that is the run down of my afternoon. Hope yours was a little better. :D

Yeah i thought about that, but seeing as I am not the owner that had it serviced there last, I really cant see them owning up to anything. Plus I need to get the car back on the road as fast as i can. It is my daily driver.

Oh well, all new plugs are in, oil is changed with 0W40, new filter and will have new leads. New front rotors come on tuesday and have new pads to install with them, so that is next weekends plan, then then gearbox, diffs and AYC the following week and then i can rest easy hopefully. Car is getting a pampering.

As i am a volunteer firefighter, i wince every time i have to jump in the car in the dead of night and race off to a firecall without even a hint of warming up, so i thought i would treat the car to new everything so hopefully it likes me enough to not break down :)

Sure it wasn't nickel anti-sieze that was on the threads but they just wrenched them up too tight? It's always a good idea to put some on the threads when you put the new plugs in and follow the tightening procedure on the plug boxes/packets. Also put some dilectric grease on your spark plug ceramic insulator and top connector where it plugs into the boot. Will stop you damaging the boot when unplugging in the future. Do this and next time removing them will be a dream.

Having dealers service imports never ends well.... Loctite on plugs. Wow.

No the loctite was on the stems of the spark plug caps, so i could not pull the ends off the plugs. And there is no bloody room in there anyway. There is red loctite all over the caps and on the walls of the cylinders where you slide the spark plugs down into where they screw in.

Btw, those PFR6J's are fine for our cars, I'm running them at the moment.

Sorry to hear about the dramas though. Loctite on the spark plugs, who thought that was a good idea?

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they did that so they could charge 11ty billion dollars in labour costs the next time it was due for a plug change, and charge for a new set of leads as well...

Oh well. Just about to ring ICE now. Hope they have some in stock so i can get the thing back on the road

Tims comment basically sums it up..... I will never ask a dealer to do a service for me again. When I called Mitsi here to book in for a MINOR service (Which I should've done myself but was a little busy at the time) the first thing they did was put me through to the workshop supervisor at the computer so he could find out what a Legnum was

I've had to take my Leggy into the local Mitsu dealership for a service and made sure I literally ran them through the whole damn process because I was so paranoid they'd muck up. I even wrote them out a full list of the correct oils etc because I had so little faith in them.
Simple fact is these cars were never locally sold so we can't really expect the dealerships to know a great deal about the engines/cars. Chances are unless they are either pretty experienced or know their cars they probably have never even seen a 6A13 engine. But yeah loctite on the spark plugs is a dumb idea.

When I first got my Celsior I called the local Toyota dealership to ask what kind of oil filter the cars used and what kind of oil I should use. Afer 5 minutes on hold, they told me they didn't know. Then I told them it was identical to an Australian delivered Lexus LS400. 2 more minutes on hold, then they told me they still didn't know. Then I said the engine was a 1UZ-FE - shared between a few cars. More holding, then more "dunno".

That pretty much summed up dealers for me...

Well spoke to Michael today at ICE. Echo what other people have said about him being a champ. Quick and easy and the leads will be here tomorrow. He has plenty in stock if anyone else is needing new plug leads.

A mate took his suzuki swift to KMart tyre and auto the other day for its 40 000km service. They rang him to say they would really reccomend them doing a full wheel balance and rotation as they look like they needed it. He told them to get stuffed. Why???.... the tyres had only done about 500kms from new as we put rims on the car and had only changed them back as he is getting new rims.
