Hey guys.
After long thoughts on what turbos to go for and discussing things with my installer and watching madhavs upgrade I have decided to go for a set of gtr R33 turbos.
These came of a non boosted car with no shaft play and 84KMS.
All parts included and I know they have a habbit of blowing up at high boost but I am aimingfor approx 250KW atw and a daily driver.
Will be running a map ecu with no maf sensor and 550 or 630cc injectors.
I will also be making custom manifolds and dump pipes and running cold air intake pipes to cool the turbos.
Being a ceramic turbine they spool super fast and are designe for a 2.6ltr motor and are bigger then the td03's so with the right mods and a decent tune should be a good combo.
As I got them for $500NZ and they sell for $500-600US on american ebzy I am still a few hundred in front and if they do break the car will be ready for steel wheel or N1 turbos or hks etc but for better stronger gtr turbos and there is lots to choose but I think they will do nicely for a aily driver and the cost is good.
Look forward to your feedback but I will do lots of pics when we start doing it all in 2-3 weeks.

If they are indeed in good condition then the price is good. Other good thing is the size, they are suited to our engine. Also these can be high flowed, just check skylines australia and see how well they have done with them. 250kw atw is relatively low on their dyno leaderboard!!

I thought they were T28 turbos? Only the R34 onwards got ball bearings? At least that's what I found after searching a bit... People usually high flow em and put ball bearing cartridges in at the same time and replace the ceramic with steel.

If I knew that the r34 got ball bearings I would have bought the pair on ebay for $750 with only 18K on them.
I am still happy with them for now as I know that once we do custom manifolds and screamer dump pipes then like madhav said they should definately be good for 250KW + and thats my goal as its a daily driver and the price of $500NZ is great as the US dollar makes it only $270US for the pair so at $135ea per turbo its not a loss if I have to upgrade them a year later but I am optimistic as I will run cold air cooling pipes so as to keep them cool and hopefully the ceramic wheels wont brake.
I will take lots of pics during the project and looks like I will go for 575cc denso injectors and hope it all runs well at the end.
Wish me luck.

Those injectors will max out pretty quick!! My 650cc at 90% made 260kw, so we dropped it back to 80% to be safe, dunno how you'd go with smaller ones?

I will go for even bigger then so about 800cc to be safe.

It's pretty irrelevant what frame they are - actually it's really a T25 but recently Garret changed their naming system, 2560 and 2850 are the SAME things. the 2850 is the "new" name for it.

Madhav, can you say that again, your 650cc are running 90% duty?? Then you must have stupidly rich mixtures and or a very low base fuel pressure setting- I'm guessing < 40psi. Even then i find that doesn't add up.

I run 550cc in my nissan producing near enough on 500hp at then engine and i'm on 85% duty.

Based on that i'd suspect they aren't 650cc. A rough guide and i mean rough, is this;

With your 6 cylinder engine producing 100hp per cylinder, this equates to 600hp total- follow me so far? Then if you take the hp per cylinder goal and mulitply that by 5.5 then that will give an approximate size. 100 X 5.5 = 550cc.

800cc WTF:confused: i use a set of 870cc in my 26/30 engine which will produce in the region of 500-530hp at the wheels and still have plenty of headroom.

Check your fuel system

ADAM, if you have a set from a 32, don't run them above 14psi as the ceramic turbine wheel have a happbit of detaching due to the age of them now ;)

The packet said sard 650cc, I would be doubtful that RHD would supply anything less? What dave did with the tuning tbh is out of my league, have a look at the kkr 280 thread and ask him there what he did so as not to go too far off topic on adams thread. Dave also used 550cc on his magna I think which made big hp also, and was his initial recommendation to me, however looking at Valmes and his previous work as a reference, also that dude on club vr4 with with the 6A13 fto with a big single, 550cc simply wasn't gonna cut it. So that makes 3 of us that reached maximum duty cycle pretty easily, but as I said I really can't explain why...

I'm running my figures on stock 390cc injectors. I didn't think it sounded correct for your 650cc injectors either.....perhaps they are 510-550cc injectors which seems about right from the power level and duty cycle.

Take one out and get it flowed?

Dude, I'm not criticising, you guys both brought up injectors so i thought add to it.
I'm not going to ask anybody anything, it was info for you guys to add to your bag of tricks, but if you don't want to find out what's going on with your car and maybe learn something, that fine. Good luck with it

No offence taken mate, and speaking for myself I always welcome your input. I will make a point of asking about this, good to know.

Could it be also from the configuration of the V6 needing twin feeder rails and needing to do a 180deg turn to get to the rear bank?

Simon and Brad I think we all can take a page out of your books! Thank you for your knowledgeable posts.:)

Yeah thanks guys as my thread is basically going to go down the path of injectors soon enough as basically injectors go hand in hand with turbo upgrades and we are trying to come up with a good upgrade solution.
I have had almost 5 recommendations not to run the gtr turbos above 1 bar so we will aim for about 13psi or so and see what the baby puts out but I have invested in 830cc venom injectors from the states as I bought the gtr turbos for a low price and I figure that if they do die on me I will then get some N1 or hks or greddy so basically 600HP gtr turbos and we will have injectors, ecu exhaust and manifolds done for the gtr turbo conversion so the next set if needed will be a quick straight bolt on scenario.
I have read many times that injectors can be misleading or mixed up so as the guys said madhav should have one injector flowed to confirm what it really is and take it from there.
Madhav is a real pioneer and I am sure many of us have been run around with headaches when tuning or modding cars and we will not be the last but thanks to this kind of forum and great people on it we are trying our best to make things easier/faster and more cost effective for the next guy.
Thumbs up to all and I cant wait to start making a new thread when we start installing the gtr turbos.
Madhav thanks for the tip about the oil relocation kit as I bought one already and it will arrive with the turbos and your tip has saved me one less headache. Cheers

It will be good to have the relocation kit on hand, although u may not need it as the kkr 280 were only a cm or so too big which in turn forced a relocation... ur 33 garretts might be ok. Good luck and keep us in the loop.

Bumpty bump!

Any updates after 3 months??
