2012 VW Caddy 1.6TDI 7-Speed DSG. Still crappy DSG.....
Hey all,

Anyone had any experience with the K-Sport coilover kit for our cars ?

Tweakit at Lane Cove in Sydney are advertising these but for Galants 98-onwards. They have 36-way damping adjustments as opposed to 16 for the TEINs.

http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_info.php?cPath=57_527_567&products_id=5495

Just wondering what people's opinions of them are & any reason why they would be advertised for only 98-onwards models ? Pre-facelifts are not suited to these ?

Cheers.

They will fit fine on any car, they just have the dates wrong, UNLESS they are for US spec Galants in which case they are designed for macpherson struts and look completely different to VR-4 suspension.

What are the spring rates on them?

This is copied from the K-Sport UK page where they are listed for the Legnum 4WD so I'm assuming they're fine for our cars ;

Front Spring Rate 7kg/mm Rear Spring Rate 9.1kg/mm
I have to admit, I have no idea what the above even means !!!

Seems odd to have a higher rate at the rear... surely that can't be good for handling? every other brand has the fronts higher rate due to the heavier weight distribution at the front.

Spring Rate is how much force is required to move a certain distance. In this case, the front springs need 7kg of force to compress 1mm. Of course the higher the number the stiffer the spring.

As said before, does seem a bit odd that the rear is harder, I'd be a bit skeptical about that.

Ohh yeah I didn't notice that, I thought it was the other way around!

You would want the spring rates at the front to be 30-50% harder than the rear.

I'm 'fairly' sure the only person using them is Sanjeev (Jabroni), may be worth getting in contact with him about them?

If not, I think Dave (Mitsiman) from RPW was running some in his Evo 3

The coilovers are on the RPW website & the spring rates are the same on there too...

For Galants the front is 8.7 and rear is 7.2, for a Legnum the spring rates are a bit messed up based on what I've seen elsewhere. Perhaps best to check with Dave and see if that is what he asked for, or what they recommended, or if it is a simple mistake.

I beleive the wagons run a slighly heavier rear spring because of the long length of the wagon and the associated weight.

But regardless, I highly recomend the Ksport range. Both my evo, lancers and the galant / lgegnums we fitted them to all drive fantastic and as a performance street / strip unit they do the job perfectly.

I actually find the units in my evo are nicer even though there setup for competition than many lowering springs / shock absorber combinations.

Very easy to fit and very adjustable. We stock them all the time and they are not an expensive unit.

Legnum and Galant coil over units are interchangeable, except for the legnum units being slightly heavier on the spring rates.

All other spring kits have heavier springs at the front, typically TEIN's are 8kg F and 5kg R, Cusco is 12kg F, 8kg R, and so on. These are all kits designed for Legnums.

For Brisbane, let alone possibly Australia, the roads here aren't dead smooth (and you should know that)

I recently had picked up my Tien Super Wagon from Fulcrum and got it at 'Standard' 5kg front and 3kg rear, I wanted like 8kg front and 5kg rear but he mentioned, that's just overrated in Australia, roads will never be dead smooth unless you'll use it as Track

and I've had very good experiences (and test run) with super stiff coilovers, and with this setting I'm actually quite impressed with it, as well as handling response

(Back on Topic, Ksport shouldn't be all that bad, even though it's made in Taiwan within the same factory (but different colour) as D2, G4's etc:) it should be fine as mates are still running them!)

hmmm, 1200 delivered for Ksports, good deal?

knowing theyre the same as D2 or G4 has thrown me off

edit:

taken from the proprietor of streettotrack.com

FIRSTLY ************* Ksport is a totally different Company to D2...............

There has been a misunderstanding floating around the marketplace that needs to be cleared up.

Some people, presumably competitors, have been saying that the Ksport product is exactly the same as the D2 product, which is totally incorrect.

................................................................................
.................................................................................
............

Here is what one Supplier has to say on the subject, and I quote:-

"Ksport is actually different from D2 completely. The D2 coilover uses a totaly different seal set. We have had both apart in our shop. D2 came apart because of a failure, and the Ksport was damaged in a car accident (bent) so we disassembled both.

The shaft on the D2's aren't exactly smooth all the way down and they are out of round by almost .05''. Their seals were almost rubber O -rings that were poorly installed.

The Ksport shafts are smooth all the way down and use much nicer seals all the way through. We have been using Ksport for a long time now, they have been great to work with and the product has yet to fail on us."
................................................................................
.................................................................................
...............

If anyone would like a copy of the above exact communication, please email me here:- stsaus1@bigpond.com

Just Jap, the previous Australian Importer of the D2 product, tell me that they no longer import the D2 product because of manufacturing flaws, and too many warranty claims.

I personally would like to state that over the last 5 years since I have been selling the Ksport product here in Australia, I have had NO warranty claims, NO returns, and NO customer complaints, except one who fitted the product incorrectly thus damaging the coilovers, BUT, Ksport replaced them anyway. How good is that?

Even though I promote a number of coilover products, and brake kit products, I would have to say that for value for money you can't go past the Ksport product.
