Hey fairly new to the site. Just wondering if anyone else has had any lifter noise in their legnum? does anyone know how much it costs to fix/replace?

It is perfectly normal and isn't a fault. If you're really annoyed by it you can buy new lifters.

If you change your oil regularly and use 0w30 fully synthetic they might get better and over time the noise might go away.

Johnny I think your question should have been does anyone not have lifter noise. It is usually handled by using the search button and changing your engine oil. Suggest you do a search first before asking questions. The answers are out there.
And welcome to the forum. Not everyone is a smart arse like me.

LOL Pete ;)

Welcome to the site, John. As Pete said, you should be able to find answers to the vast majority of questions you're likely to have about the car by looking around the forums, specifically the Index and FAQ and the Search button are good places to start :)

In response to your particular question lifter noise is common with Mitsubishis. A lot of people have had luck with reducing noise using Amsoil 0W30 oil, so that might be worth a try. Otherwise replacement lifters will cost you in the vicinity of $500 just for the parts, as there's 24 lifters to replace at somewhere around $22 each from Japan. I dread to think how much it would cost to get someone to replace them for you...

But as Brad said, a bit of lifter noise is quite normal and not something to get too concerned about.

I just did an oil change and last time that fixed the lifer noise but this time they were still tapping,
BUT to fix it I did what one of the guy's on clubvr4 said to do and it seems to have fixed the lifter noise, for now anyway.

Its something to do with trying to bleed the air from the lifters and it worked for me.

When einge is warm you slowly rev it to 3000rpm over 15 sec then quickly release the accelerator. wait about 15sec and do it again.
So overall do it about 20 times and see if that makes the noise go away.

Mine have been noisy since purchase (~2000 kms). Today I did an engine flush (see the guide section) and also added Motul 5/40 full synthetic oil. They are a LOT quieter now, so I'm much happier ;) I suggest a flush and fresh 100% synthetic (not semi syn) oil and see how you go.

I normally use the ticking as a guide for when its time to have a service - it usually creeps up at just before 5000 kms or about 4 months of driving

Hey another thing, i went to a few auto stores in my area and no one has heard of amsoil. They also said there isnt 0w30 but they did have 0w40 but it is only used in race cars??? i take your advice over theres but whats should i do? should i try and find a stockist or special order it or is there another brand that will work just as good? i get my car serviced at the dealer where i bought it but want too take the oil and filter to them so i know the car is getting what it needs so i dont wreck it. Do i also need the amsoil oil flushing stuff or will any brand do? any help would be appreciated.

John,

you'll have to find the NSW dealer and purchase direct. There are no shop deals.

Its always a good idea to use quality engine oil.
Additives are great if you are selling your car and want to rip someone off.
The best way to deal with the lifter tick is replace them.
If you do it with the camshafts in and use the special tool the job is easier.
We sell lots of these lifters for CC 1.8 GSR. They are in fact the same lifter.
Please note that the Meek website has pricing for a set of 16. We can sell a set of 24. I will get around to revising the listing one day.
